Gilbert composes music in a wide variety of styles including pop, rock, metal, blues, jazz, funk and classical, but is perhaps best known for his versatility and speed. His guitar work is characterised by his floating right hand contrary to the more common anchored right hand that guitarists like Pink Floyd's David Gilmour favour. He is also considered to be one of the best proponents of alternate picking.
Paul once had his own column in British guitar magazine, Total Guitar. He is sometimes a guest lecturer at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) that he once attended, along with Gary Hoey and many other guitar players. He works a great deal with GIT's division in Japan, where he lived for a time before relocating to Los Angeles, CA.

Had my day in the sun
Now my body's a map
Of a cracked Arizona
Time runnin' out
And I'm melting away
Melting away
If you see me comin', start runnin'
I'm the one you love
If you see me cryin', start lyin'
I'm the one you love
Failing to plead
With a throat full of dust
Life falls asleep
In a fetal position
My skull is an egg
Like a flash in the pan
A heavenly meal
For the animal angels
If you see me comin', start runnin'
I'm the one you love
If you see me cryin', start lyin'
I'm the one you love
Gravity why so soon, what's the rush
Gravity pulls me down, underground
Gravity hunt me down, make the kill
If you see me comin', start runnin'
I'm the one you love
If you see me cryin', start lyin'
I'm the one you love
The lyrics of Paul Gilbert's song Gravity paint a grim picture. The opening line, "I've had my fun, had my day in the sun," suggest that the singer has enjoyed his life, but he is now paying the price for it. He describes his body as a "cracked Arizona," representing the damage that has accumulated over the years. The imagery in the song is vivid and visceral, with lines like "my skull is an egg" and "a heavenly meal for the animal angels" evoking a sense of decay and mortality.
The middle section of the song is particularly bleak, with the singer describing himself as "melting away" and a "human candle." He also talks about his throat being full of dust and life falling asleep in a fetal position. These lines could suggest that he is dying or suffering from a debilitating illness. The chorus of the song is haunting, with the repeated line "If you see me comin', start runnin'" implying that the singer is a dangerous and destructive force.
The last verse returns to the theme of gravity, with the singer asking why it pulls him down so soon and begging it not to hunt him down and make the kill. Overall, the song is a stark and uncompromising meditation on mortality and the relentless march of time.

Time has come when I'll be gone
Beyond the great unknown
I'll be flying free, defying gravity
Cut the strings and say a prayer
And take off on my own
Me, I'm flying free, defying gravity
Gravity, defying gravity
Rest In Peace Mr. Torpey.

So cool! The Friendship of this band.. Awesome!
I was trapped in a bubble of ordinary
And I'm dying for a little mystery
Tearing away with the mask on my face
Changing my ancient history
I have faith in my fate
I am not afraid
I won't be a victim of circumstances
If I don't hear the music, I can't dance
What am I worth if I don't take a turn
I crash and I burn, I took my chance
I have faith in my fate
I am not afraid
The eyes of the world
The way they weigh me down
Time has come when I'll be gone
Beyond the great unknown
I'll be flying free, defying gravity
Cut the strings and say a prayer
And take off on my own
Me, I'm flying free, defying gravity
Gravity, defying gravity
I was born with the heart of a true believer
At the top of the tree the fruit gets sweeter
Just good enough is never enough
Man, I'm just a dreamer
The eyes of the world
The way they weigh me down
Time has come when I'll be gone
Beyond the great unknown
I'll be flying free, defying gravity
Cut the strings and say a prayer
And take off on my own
Me, I'm flying free, defying gravity
Gravity, defying gravity
Somewhere out there there's a place where I belong
In a wondrous garden where the voices in my head are gone
Time has come when I'll be gone
Beyond the great unknown
I'll be flying free, defying gravity
Cut the strings and say a prayer
And take off on my own

0:28 his smile is so pure, lord knows how much pain he must’ve been in at that point but it never stopped him from doing what he loved to the very end. Nice from the band as well for not giving him the boot and allowing him to still contribute to the music, real friends there🙏🏽
