A noted character actor with a distinctively campy and snarky persona that often poked fun at his barely in-the-closet homosexuality, Lynde was well known for his roles as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched and the befuddled father Harry MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie. He was also the regular "center square" panelist on the game show Hollywood Squares from 1968 to 1981, and he voiced two Hanna-Barbera productions; he was Templeton the gluttonous rat in Charlotte's Web and The Hooded Claw in The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.

I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They are disobedient, disrespectful oafs!
Noisy, crazy, sloppy, lazy, loafers!
While we're on the subject:
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!
Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!
Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids today?
Kids!
I've tried to raise you the best I could
Kids!
All the things I've done were for your own good!
Kids!
Can't you once apprecaite how I've sacrificed?
Working, slaving, scrimping saving pennies
And living with your father!
Kids!
No one knows the burdens I've had to bear
(And in my condition)
Kids!
I'm a poor sick woman and does he care? (Ha!)
Go on go on and kill me, that's what it's coming to
When a mother has kids like you!
Kids!
All the chicken soup that I've made for you
(Momma take it easy)
Kids!
Now you throw me out like a worn out show
Not in front of everybody Mom
After all I haven't been such an awful son
I never sass you back or leave a ring around the bathtub
And don't I always phone you?
Kids!
You can give your life to them night and day
Kids!
Then they go get married and go away
Married! Who's gettin' married???
Why do we have these children? Better to have a pet
You know where you stand with the pet
I never asked for nothing, nothing is what you'll get
What's the matther with kids to----
I tried Lou but I failed
Oh you didn't Momma, ya didn't!
Don't try to pay me back Sonny, I forgive ya
So what if your an ingrate? so as long as your happy
I don't want to be happy!
Don't feel guilty! Just make believe I'm old used car!
Junk me! Leave me in the gutter!
Oh I'll never leave you never!
You heard him! Your a witness!
I promise Momma, I never broke a promise to my Momma!
(Good boy)
Why can't they be like Albert? Perfect in every way!
What's the matter with kids?
Yeah, what's the matter with kids?
Nothing's the matter with kids today!
The song "Kids" by Paul Lynde is a satirical take on the generational gap between the older and younger generations. The lyrics are sung by an exasperated parent who bemoans the lack of respect, discipline, and obedience in today's kids. The singer expresses frustration that their children do not appreciate the sacrifices that they have made and that they behave irresponsibly and selfishly. The parent accuses their children of being lazy, noisy, and crazy, and laments that they are entirely ungrateful for all that they have been given.
At the same time, the song satirizes the idea that the older generation was somehow more perfect and ideal than today's youth. The singer admits that they were "perfect in every way," but this claim is clearly meant to be tongue-in-cheek. The parent's exasperation and frustration are played for laughs, and the satirical tone of the song allows the listener to appreciate the humor in the situation.

Lyrics:
Adults! Kids! Adults! Kids! Adults!
Kids,You've had your fun now we've had our fill.
Yeah,You're only here cuz Marge forgot her pill.
Kids, you're all just scadalizing, vandalizing punks.
Channel hopping, Ridlin popping, monkey's, but please don't quit the fanclub!
Kids, I can nag and nag till my hair turns blue.
Kids, you bum my smokes and don't say thank you!
Why can't you be like we are?
Oh what a bunch of brats!
We ought to drown you just like cats!
Adults, you run our lives like your Col. Klink
Adults, you strut around like your farts don't stink.
Adults, your such a drooling, snoring, boozing boring bunch
Surly, meany, three martini lunchers!
I just ate a thumb tack!
Adults, they're always telling us to-- SHUT YOUR TRAPS.
Eh, we're fed up with all of you whippersnaps!
We're trying to get some sleep here, it's almost 6:15.
What's the matter with-
Don't you treat us like-
Can't you just lay off-
We're sick of all of you!
Kids today.
Wait, what do you mean this is the wrong version?
@sammavacaist
Casting Paul Lynde as the father was a stroke of genius.
@jilliank6379
Blair Bart the 1995 one? Barely a remake! The 1963 movie is completely unfaithful to the musical. I for one consider the 1995 one an adaptation of its source material, not remake.
@jilliank6379
Blair Bart dude I just said that
@aminsadeghpour1549
He was the original on Broadway along with Dick Van Dyke.
He also voiced Templeton the rat in the animated version of Charlotte's Web
@PaulLynde1926
omg yes! I love him a lot & he's hilarious! he is such a great guy in this movie
@CraigyFergsBlue
The best thing to happen in show biz for that kind of Broadway musical/movie
@judy4064
"You dare defy your mother?"
"It's my hair!"
"Not until you're 21!"
I love that
@NorybDrol82
Wait wasn't Ann Margaret actually 21 when this was filmed. XD
@breiffen5526
@@NorybDrol82 yeah but her character I think was only like 15
@strafrag1
I don't know how Ann kept a straight face after that line from Paul.
