I Like Chopin
Paul Mauriat Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Remember that piano
So delightful unusual
That classic sensation
Sentimental confusion

Used to say
I like Chopin
Love me now and again

Rainy days never say goodbye
To desire when we are together
Rainy days growing in your eyes
Tell me where's my way

Imagine your face
In a sunshine reflection
A vision of blue skies
Forever distractions

BRIDGE.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "I Like Chopin" by Paul Mauriat are poetic and romantic, exploring the themes of nostalgia and love. The opening lines speak of a memorable piano that is delightful and unusual, evoking a sense of longing for the past. The lyrics then move on to describe a classic sensation and sentimental confusion, possibly alluding to the mixed feelings of love and heartbreak.

The chorus of the song is a repetition of the lines, "I like Chopin, love me now and again," which could be interpreted as a plea for the singer's lover to return to them or to rekindle their love. The following verse paints a picture of rainy days that never say goodbye, and the desire that grows in the eyes of the singer and their lover when they are together. The second half of the verse raises the question of where the singer's way is, possibly indicating that they are lost without their lover.

The lyrics take a dreamy turn in the next verse, as the singer imagines their lover's face reflected in the sunshine and envisions blue skies forever. The bridge ties the lyrics together with a repetition of the classic sensation mentioned earlier, perhaps suggesting that the singer's love for their partner is a timeless and enduring feeling.

Paul was one of the greatest composers that ever lived!

@MarciCow

The composer is Pierluigi Giombini, a classically trained pianist who, indeed, likes Chopin. The melody is entirely his, and the topic of the lyrics are well. The lyrics themselves were developed by the guitar player Paul Mazzolini (aka "Gazebo"), a jazzist and lyricist. Mauriat took the music and made it lighter, but at the same time, very memorable. It sticks with you, and more so in this version.
