Can't Buy Me Love-Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love

I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend
If it makes you feel all right
I'll get you anything my friend
If it makes you feel all right
'Cause I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

I'll give you all I've got to give
If you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give
But what I've got I'll give to you
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no ,no, no

Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
That money just can't buy
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no ,no, no
Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
That money just can't buy
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love
Ooh, can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love, no

Overall Meaning

In "Can't Buy Me Love," Paul McCartney declares that money cannot buy love or happiness. He acknowledges that he has the means to buy his love interest a diamond ring or anything she desires, but emphasizes that he doesn't care too much for money because he knows it can't buy authentic love. McCartney is willing to give everything he has as long as his love interest reciprocates his feelings: "I'll give you all I've got to give, if you say you love me too. I may not have a lot to give, but what I've got I'll give to you."

Through this song, McCartney is reminding listeners that love and happiness cannot be found through material possessions. He is suggesting that true love should not be based on the value of gifts or money, but rather on genuine feelings and actions. The repeated phrase of "Can't buy me love" emphasizes the message of the song that materialistic items are not the key to love and happiness.

In conclusion, "Can't Buy Me Love" is a timeless classic that emphasizes the importance of love over material possessions. McCartney's lyrics and message still resonate with people today and serve as a reminder that true love can't be bought with money.

@Rogers_Ego

@@philipwelsh1862 Not a big Beatles fan probably choose the stones if only those two! However I put Floyd above both but we are all different but all 3 acts are in the top 5 for doing their bit for music for me whether I like them or not 🍀✌️👍

If it was anybody else, I’d say I can’t believe he sounds so good at 82. But I’m not surprised at all that Paul still sounds great.

82? Are you kidding me?! Still rocking it after 65+ years. That's got to be some kind of record for longevity. And to draw that kind of crowd!!! Wow!!! Calling him a "legend" doesn't do this man justice. He's on another level. What a gift he is and are all of the Beatles to all of us. God bless him.
