Hope Of Deliverance
Paul McCartney Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I will always be hoping, hoping
You will always be holding, holding
My heart in your hand
I will understand

I will understand someday, one day
You will understand always
Always from now until then

When it will be right, I don't know
What it will be like, I don't know
We live in hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

And I wouldn't mind knowing, knowing
That you wouldn't mind going, going along with my plan

When it will be right, I don't know
What it will be like, I don't know
We live in hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance from the darkness that surrounds us

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance (I will understand)
Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance (I will understand)

Hope of deliverance
Hope of deliverance (I will understand)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paul McCartney's song Hope of Deliverance describe the idea of hope in times of darkness and uncertainty. The song talks about two people who are hoping to find their way out of the darkness that is surrounding them. The first verse speaks of the hope and trust one person has for the other to hold their heart and to eventually understand each other. The second verse talks about the uncertainty of the future, but still continuing to hope for deliverance from the darkness.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "hope of deliverance" several times. This suggests that the only way to get through the darkness is to have hope, which can serve as a guiding light. The last verse suggests a plan to move forward together, indicating that even though they are unsure of what lies ahead, they are prepared to face it together by holding onto the hope of deliverance.

In summary, the song is about holding onto hope during times of darkness and uncertainty, and trusting that things will get better eventually.

Off The Ground was one of Pauls best works. It's completely shadowed by all of his other incredible works.

All the McCartney songs give me a positive outlook on life. And that's been since 1964. What a great long ride with you Sir. Your music will go on forever.

I agree...Paul understood that songs can be uplifting whether the song has a message or not..Lennon got very Precious about allways having some great message slagging off some of his great Beatles songs like I feel fine and Its only love..saying they were trite..completely ignoring the fact that they were uplifting and joyous..Paul understood songs could simply serve that purpose.
