Bluebird
Paul McCartney & Wings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Late at night when the wind is still
I'll come flying through your door,
And you'll know what love is for

I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird,
I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Touch your lips with a magic kiss
And you'll be a bluebird too,
And you'll know what love can do

I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird,
I'm a bluebird,
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird

Fly away through the midnight air
As we head across the sea,
And at last we will be free

You're a bluebird, you're a bluebird,
You're a bluebird, you're a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You're a bluebird, you're a bluebird
You're a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird

Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird

All alone on a desert island
We're living in the trees,
And we're flying in the breeze

We're the bluebirds, we're the bluebirds
We're the bluebirds, we're the bluebirds

Singing bluebird
Ah ha,
Bluebird

Ah ha,
Bluebird

One of my all-time favourites. As a child, I couldn't believe anyone could write such a beautiful piece. A masterpiece. Thanks, Paul.

Feel exactly the same like you!

I still believe that! This song encases McCartney’s unmatched musicianship.

I agree that this is one of his best solo songs. I am not trying to sound mean, but solo Paul can be very hit or miss, but when he hits, damn does he do a great job! I think he is just so good that when his collaborators are too intimidated to tell him he can do better with something, he just goes with the first thing he thinks of. John was someone Paul saw as an equal, but by the end of the Beatles, they had such different ideas, John just sort of hated many perfectly good Paul songs because they weren't what he wanted to do. Hence, their first two solo albums were utterly different. It's a very good thing the Beatles did break up when they did. They were all very much on the same page, for the most part, when they started, and were grateful when Paul would do 'Til There Was You, or what have you, so they could get different styles in, but by the end they were getting frustrated at playing radically different music from what they wanted.

Did I just type all this? Nothing!

What a masterpiece! This world is a more beautiful place because of Paul McCartney. A gentle soul, with a beautiful spirit who is kind to both people and animals, and who has a one-of-a-kind God given talent for music, moving people, bringing them joy, and spreading love on this planet,
