Just Like Me
Paul Revere & The Raiders Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's just like me
To say to you
Love me do
And I'll be true
And what I'd like
For you to say
Is you'll come home
To me each day

Hiku be my girl
That's what I want
Just you sweet thing
And not a thing
It's just like me
To feel so good
And fall so much
In love with you

It's just like me
It's just like me
I'm actin' the fool
That's how I'll be
But it's just like you
To say goodbye
And leave me all
Alone at night, woah

It's just like me
To say to you
Love me do
And I'll be true
And what I'd like
For you to say
Is you'll love me
Here each day

It's just like me
It's just like me
I'm actin' the fool
That's how I'll be
But it's just like you
To say goodbye
And leave me all
Alone at night

It's just like me
It's just like me
That's how I'll be
But it's just like you
It's just like me
It's just like me

I'm actin' the fool
That's how I'll be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Paul Revere & The Raiders’ song “Just Like Me” convey the emotions of a lover who is head over heels in love and wants nothing more than for their significant other to reciprocate their feelings. The chorus repeats, “It’s just like me to say to you, love me do and I’ll be true,” emphasizing the singer’s sincerity and devotion. They express their desire for their partner to stay with them each day and to love them consistently.

However, the lyrics also suggest a level of insecurity and fear of heartbreak. The line, “But it’s just like you to say goodbye and leave me all alone at night, woah,” shows the singer’s sense of vulnerability and anxiety about the possibility of being abandoned. Despite this, they cannot help but fall deeper in love and “act the fool” by obsessing over their significant other. The repetition of “It’s just like me” highlights the lover’s self-awareness of their own behavior.

Overall, “Just Like Me” explores the complex emotions of love, vulnerability, and the fear of getting hurt. The lyrics capture the timeless experience of being in love and the desire for love to be reciprocated.

Keep in mind this was released in November of 1965, the extreme aggression of this song was a shock at the time. I was 16 when this song came out, and it was fantastic to crank this song up in the car. The double tracked guitar solo was also something new, and it was a real mind bender.

“The extreme aggression of this song was a shock at the time”

And 4 years later, people would be shocked by the extreme aggression of Iggy and his Stooges.

Chuck Ragsdale

It is the first album I ever bought(I had a little stack of 45's). I was 9yrs old then and it still sounds amazing! My 2nd album? Steppenwolf at your birthday party. 😎

It's odd I understood that from the first time I heard the song, and it was 10 years before I was born. I just new it was something fresh and shocking, partly based on my knowledge of those times and the other part harder to explain. Great song best song

It was the lead in to the year of the garage band. Music changes usually with one song and then others follow.
