Peace Like a River
Paul Simon Lyrics

Peace like a river ran through the city
Long past the midnight curfew
We sat starry-eyed
We were satisfied

And I remember
Misinformation followed us like a plague
Nobody knew from time to time
If the plans where changed
If the plans were changed

You can beat us with wires
You can beat us with chains
You can run out your rules
But you know you can't outrun the history train
I've seen a glorious day

Four in the morning
I woke up from out of my dreams
Nowhere to go but back to sleep
But I'm reconciled

Oh, oh, oh, I'm gonna be up for a while
Oh, oh, oh
I'm gonna be up for a while

surprises me there are yet comments on paul simon's guitar skill
on this song and always

find anyone who can create or pick this and get back to me
masterfully simply complicated
succicntly flambouyant
a gem polished after hours of figuring out how to and practice on practice
and then hidden in word craft
48 years now he been blowing my mind and soothing my soul
like a really good plague

merci, mon cher ami

@Michael Trew
yes michael i agree
thx for the reply
such a secret for so long---paul's guitar work
paul is on genius level in so many ways
watch him on interviews with dick cavett
who i consider one of the most intelligent
and relevent of his generation
and a good and fair person
how difficult it must have been for paul to navigate
popularism and being himself
being honest
but he does it
much respect

@Marc Roche Thanks. I couldn't recall exactly what had happened, I just recalled that there was a reason that he had lost the dexterity to play as he used to.

Marc Roche

@Bill Wort he had a bicycle accident, and was never able to play guitar as well again.

@Bill Wort It most definitely isn't something most know. Thank you!

I'm not a guitarist, so maybe this is something everyone knows -- but sometime back I heard Simon being interviewed and his guitar style of this era was referred to as "Travis Picking." He apparently had to stop playing this way because of medical issues (maybe not arthritis, but that sort of thing...) Here's a video about Travis Picking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUFiV3RJHPA
