Silent Eyes
Paul Simon Lyrics

Silent eyes
Watching
Jerusalem
Make her bed of stones

Silent eyes
No one will comfort her
Jerusalem
Weeps alone
She is sorrow
Sorrow
She burns like a flame
And she calls my name

Silent eyes
Burning
In the desert sun
Halfway to Jerusalem
And we shall all be called as witnesses
Each and every one
To stand before the eyes of god
And speak what was done

What a songwriter !   i've never read much about this wonderful song......

Joseperez Villar

@Korrin Malott Paul Simon is the songwriter.

We can here this song at the end of the movie Shampoo (1975). But to me it's an accoustic version without the piano. Does this other version exists somewhere ?

@Jarred Knox Yeah Jared, that short tease of beauty frequently plays in my head and I finally found this through imdb but I am sadly disappointed with this...

Jarred Knox

Pavel Cahn I have been trying to find that actually wordless version for a while now. That one is just a plucked arpeggio and mournful humming and it’s played a few times in the movie. It’s never been released on any official release or soundtrack and I hate that because it’s one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces I’ve ever heard. Fits perfectly in Shampoo. (5/31/20)

They should have made a Silent Eyes/Bright Eyes medley when he and Art were still in concert. It would have been lovely

Downey Studios

The song Paul always says he wished he could have written himself was Silent Night. The parallels between that and this beautiful song are interesting.

Bernard Fox

Totally forgotten but a truly wonderful song.
