Echoes Round the Sun
Paul Weller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is it strange? Is it weird?
They come in search of truth
We must be on the spot
There's only me and you

[Incomprehensible] and you were fine
All your thoughts are out of mind
It doesn't start, it will not end
But how will we be moved'
On a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun

Echoes round the sun, echoes round the sun
On a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun
Echoes round the sun, echoes round the sun
On a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun

Looks up and comes down
Floatin' through the void
Gettin' lost, gettin' found
Is somethin' we can use

It doesn't start, it doesn't end
How will we be moved'
On a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun

Echoes round the sun, echoes round the sun
I'm on a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun
Echoes round the sun, echoes round the sun
I'm on a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun

Echoes round the sun, echoes round the sun
I'm on a rock spinnin' through the echoes round the sun

Me and you on a spot
Me and you on a spot
Me and you on a spot
Me and you on a spot

Me and you on a spot
Me and you on a spot

Overall Meaning

The song “Echoes Round the Sun” by Paul Weller has a mesmerizing and dreamy feel to it. The opening lines of the song ask if it is strange or weird that people come in search of truth. The phrase "Is it strange? Is it weird?" is repeated multiple times, perhaps suggesting that the singer is pondering the very nature of seeking truth. The line “There’s only me and you” implies that the search is an intimate one between two people.

The verses of the song are somewhat abstract and open to interpretation. The lyrics refer to being “on a spot” and floating “through the void”, which may suggest a feeling of being lost or disconnected. The line “All your thoughts are out of mind” further emphasizes a sense of disconnect or disorientation. The chorus repeats the phrase “echoes round the sun”, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the cyclical nature of life and the universe. The line “How will we be moved?” seems to reflect a sense of uncertainty or lack of control.

Overall, the song seems to be about the search for truth and meaning in the midst of the vastness of the universe. It acknowledges the feeling of being small and insignificant, but also suggests that we are all connected to the larger cycles of life and the cosmos.

One of Weller's best but a great joint effort between him, Gallagher and Craddock!

Cant believe some of these comments... Been a Weller fan since 1982 and can honestly say this is one of the best things he's ever done!

Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher is not a collaboration we deserve, but the one we need

The Modfather's last few albums have been a bit "bowiesk" probably due to sam & leah's influences! Glad to see good 'ol rock "n" roll is back on the agenda!!! Well done Guvnor!!! LEGEND!!! ❤❤😂

Love me some Modfather. Have all his albums, but after several “alimony payment albums” they were more pastoral and reflective, I’d love ol’ grumpy to get angry and furious with his next one. Let’s get Sunflower and Echoes round the Sun type energy, sir. I know it’s still in there.
