You
Paul Weller Lyrics

Whoa-oh, whoa-oh
Life is timeless, days are long when you're young
You used to fall in love with everyone
Any guitar and any bass drum
Life is a drink and you get drunk when you're young
Life is new and there's things to be done
You can't wait to be grown up
Acceptance into the capital world
You pull on some weed, then you pull on someone when you're young

But you find out life isn't like that
It's so hard to comprehend
Why you set up your dreams to have them smashed in the end

But you don't mind you've got time on your side
And they're never gonna make you stand in line
You're just waiting for the right time

Whoa-oh, whoa-oh
You're fearless and brave, you can't be stopped when you're young
You swear you're never-ever gonna work for someone
No corporations for the new-age sons
Tears of rage roll down your face
But still you say it's fun

And you find out life isn't like that
It's so hard to understand
Why the world is your oyster but your future's a clam

It's got you in its grip before you're born
It's done with the use of a dice and a board
They let you think you're king but you're really a pawn

Whoa-oh, whoa-oa
Whoa-oh

You're fearless and brave, you can't be stopped when you're young
You used to fall in love with everyone
Any guitar and any bass drum
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh (going home, going home)
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh (going home, going home)
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh (going home, going home)
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh (going home, going home)

Whoa-oh, whoa-oh (going home, going home)
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Paul Weller's song "Close to You" were actually written by Burt Bacharach, with Hal David providing the lyrics. This song is actually a cover of the famous classic hit originally sung by The Carpenters. The song is about the feeling of being attracted to someone and wanting to be close to them. The main theme of the song is that the person the song is being sung to has such a powerful aura that even nature itself is drawn to the person, literally everything around the person wants to be close to them.

The song starts with the question "Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?" The answer is that it's because of the person's beauty and kindness. They seem to attract everything beautiful around them like a magnet. The second verse starts with another question, "Why do stars fall down from the sky every time you walk by?" Again the answer is that the person shines so bright that even stars can't help but fall so they can be closer to her.

The song also highlights the person's naivety and innocence. The lyrics state that they were created by angels who sprinkled moon-dust in their hair and starlight in their eyes. The third verse explains that all the guys in town follow the person around because they too, just like the birds and stars, long to be close to her.

Overall, the song is a beautiful and poetic love letter, highlighting the qualities of a person who has everything one could ask for.

You do something to me
Something deep inside
I'm hanging on the wire
For love I'll never find
You do something wonderful
Chase it all away
Mixing my emotions
Throws me back again
Hanging on the wire, yeah
I'm waiting for my change
I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again
Hanging on the wire, yeah
Said I'm waiting for the change
Oh I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again

You do something to me
Somewhere deep inside
Hoping to get close to you
A peace I cannot find
Dancing through the fire, yeah
Just to catch a flame
Just to get close to
Just close enough
To tell you that...
You do something to me
Something deep inside

In 2001, I fell in love with a man who I believed was my soul mate. This song went round and round in my head. The lyrics and music captured the feelings I had for this man. Turns out, he didn't love me, but I am still grateful for the experience of loving someone so completely, unconditionally, infinitely. This song always reminds me of that intoxicating feeling of what it was like to love someone like this.

I have a friend who I love so much but who I know doesn't and never will love me. This song expresses my feelings so perfectly

@gswayne65

@@mariasmart2419 I once had a secret love for a girl who I was very good friends with and I never took the plunge to tell her how I felt, sadly she died of a brain tumour aged 21, now over 30 years later I still look back with regret that I never took the chance to tell how I felt, go for it tell them, worst case scenario things might be awkward for a while but at least you’ll know.

@jordyjakequeen8404

This song was everything to me 23 years of marriage then traded in
