Ramona
Paul Whiteman Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wander out yonder o'er the hills
Where the mountains high
Seem to kiss the sky
Someone is out yonder, o'er the hills
Waiting patiently, Waiting just for me

Ramona, I hear the mission bells above
Ramona, they're ringing out our song of love
I press you, caress you, and bless the day you taught me to care
To always remember the rambling rose you wear in your hair
Ramona, when day is done you'll hear my call
Ramona, we'll meet beside the water fall
I dread the dawn when I awake to find you gone
Ramona I need you my own

Let's wander out yonder o'er the hills
By a babbling brook
Where we'll find a nook
To build our own love nest, o'er the hills
Darling of my heart, Never more to part

Ramona, I hear the mission bells above
Ramona, they're ringing out our song of love
I press you, caress you, and bless the day you taught me to care
To always remember the rambling rose you wear in your hair
Ramona, when day is done you'll hear my call
Ramona, we'll meet beside the water fall

I dread the dawn when I awake to find you gone
Ramona I need you my own

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paul Whiteman's "Ramona" describe a man wandering out in the hills where the mountains seem to kiss the sky, searching for someone who is waiting for him. The song seems to be a love story between two people, with the singer singing about his love for Ramona. He hears the mission bells above and they're ringing out their song of love. He remembers the day Ramona taught him to care, and he promises to always remember the rambling rose she wears in her hair. Even though he dreads the dawn when he'll wake up and find her gone, he needs her to be his own.

What a great job you’ve done in remastering this now 92 yo recording...it’s so very easy to listen to. 👍

Happy to hear that you like it. :-)

@metrocammell1

You've done a marvellous transfer of this, much better than my worn copy on HMV !

@the78prof72

I appreciate the compliment, however (full disclosure) you'll note from the video's written description that the audio here was from a CD track. I may have done a bit of additional cleaning and EQ adjustment, but it's been so long ago that I really don't recall. Glad that you enjoy it.

@@the78prof72 How did they manage to transfer these old 78s to CD with such a good quality? Did they have access to unused records?

@asskicka71

what on earth was Paul cooking on this one...
