What makes this scene even better is that he actually burned only the cover page. Everything under was blank paper. The actual manuscript would be published when he escaped, and Paul would consider it one of his best works yet. It was the best novel in the Misery series, and Annie would never get to read it.

@Terryfan Not gonna lie, I myself did feel a little sad for Annie when I was reading the book. Then I remembered she chopped Paul's foot off and ran over that poor kid's head with a lawnmower.

As someone who likes to write stories I would be mad if I had to get rid of a story that I had spend a long time writing. But being that this was his means to escape sometimes sacrifice are necessary for the greater good

In the novel, he saves the book and publishes it after he's rescued but in the movie they changed it so he actually burns the real manuscript which I actually prefer to the novel's ending.
