But that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman toil for my kids
Sweat 'til I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver linin'
Lift me to paradise
Show me that river
Take me across and wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Up in the mornin' out on the job,
Work like the devil for my pay
But that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman toil for my kids
Sweat 'til I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Good Lawd above, can't you know I'm pinin'
Tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver linin'
Lift me to paradise
Show me that river
Take me across and wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
"That Lucky Old Sun" is a song performed by Paul Williams. The lyrics refer to a person working tirelessly all day long, while the sun is seemingly lazy, rolling around in heaven without a care. The singer expresses a sense of exhaustion and frustration with their work life and desires to be washed away to Paradise where they can lounge around like the sun.
The verses express the hard-working life of the singer. They wake up early in the morning and work all day. They sweat and toil and put in the effort for their job and family, but the sun just rolls around in the sky doing nothing. It puts into perspective the harsh reality of working hard for little reward, while others seemingly have it easy.
The chorus describes the singer's desire to escape their troubles and seek peace in Paradise. They ask God to grant them relief, to send them a silver lining in their tough life. They want to be shown a river and be taken away from all their troubles, just like the lucky old sun that has nothing to do but roll around in heaven.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of exhaustion, frustration, and a desire for a relaxing and peaceful escape from the harsh realities of life.
