White Lies
Paul van Dyk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm being pulled into the fire of intoxic flame
I'm too close
And there's a good chance that I won't get away
And I needed going into the daylight
And I'm looking for it into the night
Then I think about it and I can't live without it
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Don't go
I tell myself that I'm not really hooked on you
But I know
If I stay then your use will become abuse
When I'm trying not to break the fever
And the medicine you just won't take
Then I think about it and I can't live without it
You're telling me that, that's alright
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
Can't get enough, can't get enough
When you're telling me the white lies, champagne
It's getting rough and I wanna know
If I'm addicted to your white lies in vain
The lyrics of Paul van Dyk's "White Lies" describe a person who is attracted to someone who constantly tells lies, yet remains addicted to their charm and intoxicating influence. The song begins with the singer acknowledging they are getting too close to this person, who is like an "intoxicating flame." Despite realizing they should be looking for an escape from this dangerous situation, they find themselves addicted to the person's white lies, which come with a champagne toast.
The singer is aware that they are being lied to, but they cannot resist the temptation of this person's false charm. The line "I'm trying not to break the fever and the medicine you just won't take" suggests that the singer has attempted to end the relationship but has been unsuccessful. They remain drawn to the rush of being with someone who is constantly feeding them lies, like a drug that has become a part of them.
The chorus is a repeated desire to know if the singer is truly addicted to the white lies or if it's just a passing fancy. It captures the idea that the singer's attraction to this person is both intense and ambiguous. The song ends with a plea from the singer to stay, as they struggle with their addiction to white lies and their longing for this person's presence in their life.
Overall, "White Lies" is a powerful exploration of the human heart and its tendency to seek out unhealthy relationships. It captures the struggle between the mind and the heart, as the singer tries to reconcile their desire for this person with the reality of their lies.

I've been a PVD fan since 1997. Normally I'm fine with remixes, but, imho, this song is all about the vocals. I mean, I literally get high on the vocals here. That's why I prefer a straight-up approach. Non-expanded, non-stop vocals, in your face, and on full blast. Thanks, Paul, for this great song; and thanks, Jessica, for the scintillating vocals!
