DeAnda was born in San Angelo, Texas, to Mexican American parents Steven and Barbara, a restaurant general manager and a registered nurse, respectively. At age six she began taking piano lessons and was soon singing at functions around town at the recommendation of her piano teacher.[5] She also sang the national anthem at local football games. In 2002, DeAnda's family decided to move to Corpus Christi in order to help advance her career in music since Corpus Christi had a reputation as a music hub.[6] She attended Mary Carroll High School.
DeAnda was the opening act for a concert which featured hip-hop artists, Nelly, Baby Bash and Frankie J. performing in front of twenty thousand people.[1][6] Her first single, "What Would It Take" was serviced to local radio stations in July, received airplay from ten radio stations across the country. Her next single "Doing Too Much" was released in December. It was then that she got the opportunity to audition for Clive Davis who signed her for a seven-album deal with Arista Records on the spot.
"Doing Too Much" served as the lead single to her self-titled debut album which was released in the summer of 2006, and charted in the Top50 of the Billboard Hot 100. It was later was certified gold in the US in 2007. Paula DeAnda charted at #54 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album mainly consists of songs about love and relationships and is of the pop-R&B genre. DeAnda co-wrote four songs on the album, which features production from Happy Perez among others. She was only 16 years old at the time of the album's released. Her second single "Walk Away (Remember Me)" (written by Christina Milian and Ne-Yo) was her biggest hit, reaching the top twenty on the Hot 100. The single was certified gold by the RIAA, becoming her second single to do so. Follow-up singles from her debut included "When It Was Me" and "Easy" which the latter featured rapper Lil Wayne. She later appeared in the MTV television film Super Sweet 16: The Movie.
In 2008, DeAnda began production on next effort, initially due in 2009. A buzz single "Stunned Out" was released and garnered some airplay, but the set's lead single ended up being the ballad "Roll the Credits", which was released with a music video was planned. Clive Davis left Arista's parent company at the time, RCA Label Group in 2008 to become the chief creative officer for Sony BMG. DeAnda also parted ways Arista following his departure.

And that's the way you could've made all the things you told me
Yeah, yeah
I remember when you told me you'd never lie to me
I can't believe I trusted you
I sacrificed my time and my heart
I gave you my all and what you do
You stepped on me, you walked on me
Boy you left your
Footprints on my
Heart broken crying over the way you left your
Footprints on my
Heart aching you ran all over me and left your
Footprints on my heart
My heart
I know the way you were before me
And I was crazy to think you'd change
I put up with your attitude
Your selfish ways and your childish games (whoa)
A good heart always ends up broken
But overtime, it'll make me strong
I'ma put the pieces back together
Might take some time, but I just go on
[Chorus]
Love me or leave me
I don't mind
My heart can't take this pain
We had something so beautiful
But now it's not the same
So I gotta let this go
Gotta take back the truth
This situation makes no good for me
I can't believe I let it happen like this
I just sat back while you
[Chorus]
Oh, whoa, ooh
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh
In the song Footprints On My Heart by Paula DeAnda, the lyrics speak about a relationship that has gone sour. The singer laments how her partner no longer holds her the way he used to, which leaves her feeling hurt and disappointed. She also remembers when he promised never to lie to her but notes that he did betray her trust. Despite giving him her all, she reveals that he stepped on her heart, broke it and left footprints all over it. The chorus repeats this imagery of being walked all over and serves as a metaphorical representation of the emotional pain and anguish she experiences.
The lyrics reflect on how the singer put up with her partner's bad attitude, selfish ways, and childish games, thinking he would change for her sake. She acknowledges that good people like herself always end up broken-hearted, but that over time, she will gather up the pieces and become stronger. The song's concluding lyrics show the singer's resolve to move on; she cannot bear the pain anymore and must let go of a relationship that is no good for her.
The song's themes of heartbreak and betrayal resonated with many listeners, and people praised Paula DeAnda's emotional vocal performance. Footprints On My Heart has become a classic breakup ballad and remains a fan favorite years after its release.
