Michael Bird é um teólogo anglicano que tem escritos maravilhosos. No livro abaixo, Bird questiona uma música muito conhecida da década de 90 da roqueira Joan Osborne, "What if God was one of us? (E se Deus fosse um de nós?)". Bird comenta esplendorosamente sobre a pergunta da música. Jesus é a resposta.
"A encarnação de Deus como ser humano é o símbolo marcante da Fé cristã. Os cristãos acreditam que “Deus estava reconciliando consigo o mundo em Cristo ”(2 Cor 5, 19), somente porque Jesus é aquele em quem “a plenitude da Deidade vive em forma corporal ”(Cl 2: 9). Então, quando a estrela do rock Joan Osborne canta em sua balada zombeteira e melancólica: "E se Deus fosse um de nós?" responda: “Sim, ele é, Aleluia aos Céus!” E quando Osborne pergunta: “Se Deus tinha um nome, qual seria?”, mal podemos conter nossa alegria de gritar, "Jesus!" Agitada como a música de Joan Osborne é, ela teria que ouvir Charles Wesley, que se expressou muito melhor que ela quando ele escreveu as palavras abaixo:
