Love the new section. Only complaint being, the Ryan guitar was touted as a fingerstyle type, but Matt only strummed it. Being a fingerstylist type myself, I would've loved to hear it finger picked. Love the show! Solas is pronounced more like "sullus" than "soul ass". It's the Irish (i.e. Gaelic) word for light, as in the opposite of dark rather than the opposite of heavy.

Hi Tony and Noah, checking in again from a colder Wales. Another great show, lots of information, banter and laughs and the shows are getting longer guys. You reckon 2 hours by show 100? I even got the trivia question right yayyyyyyyyy. Neil has been a big influence on my acoustic playing and guitar style, I'm now 67 and I spent ages in the late 60's and early 70's trying to figure out what he was doing from Buffalo Springfield albums and his early classic solo albums. I can't say I always got it right and I will never be able to fully get his feel but he taught me how to play and accompany my singing. String damps, hammer ons, pull offs, adding notes to chords, leaving them out, playing chords all over the neck. Neil is a Legend in the true sense of the word. From my early days of playing guitar it's always been about the songs and singer/songwriters for me. From early acoustic blues artists to Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Gordon Lightfoot, Dylan, Denver, CSNY, Joni, Joan Baez, many more along the way to Guy Clark, Townes van Zandt both sadly missed, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell and those I've discovered since watching the show. Even my own songwriting is getting better, you've given me a new lease of life guys. Finally, it was nice letting us into your world with your running and your pictures. Thanks guys, take care, I liked your hat Noah, I'm thinking of getting one like Eric Bibb, although I'm not sure it'll help me play like him. See you next Tuesday.

Not that I'm advocating drinking and performing, but after hearing Tony's story about his drinking misadventure, I recalled a concert I attended with Jimmy Page during his days with The Firm. He got off to a very rough start, even turning his back to the audience during his solo (which was full of clams) on their hit "Radioactive". On the head of his Marshall stack was a bottle of whiskey. He immediately hit that thing hard. Soon he was halfway down the bottle and playing like the Jimmy Page we all know. He had his swagger, flop sweats flying off of him - probably from the booze. Was it the whiskey that got him in the groove? I would never attempt do that, but hey, I guess it works for Page. #smallwin - actually, two #smallwins! I tried a set of Tony’s favourite strings, the Santa Cruz Parabolic, on my 97 Martin DCME. Wow! They are a little less bassy than my customary Martin Long Life’s, but dang! She sounds like a different guitar! The balance, the clarity, and they are so much easier to play, these strings truly brought out the dormant potential in my beloved Martin! These are my new go to strings, thank you for the excellent tip!

My second #smallwin is a new guitar! Awhile back you reviewed the Irish made Emerald X20 guitar. After a lot of research, I discovered the X20’s BIG brother, the latest offering from Alistair at Emerald, the X30. Alistair says it has the best sound of any instrument he has designed! And I have to agree, it puts little brother X20 to shame. I am waiting impatiently for delivery of my quilted kosipo topped X30 Custom Emerald with LR Baggs Anthem pick up and pinless bridge! You should definitely do a review of the new X30, the depth of the tone is amazing!

As far the excellent John Doyle goes, check out his very sophisticated bass line/ chord accompaniment to fiddle tunes with Solas and others. It is reminiscent of the great Eldon Shamblin's jazzy work with Bob Wills. Go figure ;) He is a good singer/entertainer as well, a complete musician, leading or accompanying.

I have to say I am a huge fan of the Titanium Core strings. That is the only string I have used on my 00-17.. Yeah, a bit pricey but they last so long and for newer players, they are great for reducing new player finger fatigue

Hello Guitar Geeks from Columbia,SC!! #smallwins:After getting totally lost in the wilds near Lake City, SC. We found ourselves in the woods at Hippiefest! Setting up, my artist girlfriend and I performed. Me playing my Martin D-16GTL and her painting inspired to my originals and various covers. People filing by and stopping to listen and watch Jeanee(my girlfriend) express herself on canvas to my music. What a rush! Wandering minstrels, arts and crafts and a bluegrass band nearby. Our friends Stillhouse later played the main stage. A tiring but a wonderful weekend!! Can't wait to do the next one April, 20th in Cayce(KAY SEE), SC!! Love AT84!! John Doyle is now on my list! #smallwin #1 - Brought my guitar to a conference in Williamsburg, VA and while in the hotel bar Sunday AND Monday night, played some of my favorites while THE ENTIRE BAR sang along! Unfortunately, they made me shut down at 11:30 each night. One of my colleagues even live streamed it over Twitter each night! #smallwin #2 - Went to my first open mic on, of all days, April 1st. Yep, that's right, April Fool's day. The 2nd night at the conference, as the manager shut me down, she said, "But wait! There's MORE! Down at the Deli next to the campus of William & Mary University, they're having an open mic night! I think they're open until 2:00am. Well, it didn't take long for the Jameson on the rocks (number 3...................or was it number 4..........??) anywhoo............... said, "Heck yeah, man!"" Five of us and my Yamaha acoustic piled into an Uber and headed a whopping 2 miles down the road from the hotel to this Deli/Bar/Restaurant. I walked in with guitar in hand and the house sound guy asked, "You playin?" Again, I said, "Heck yeah, man!" He got my name and wrote it down. We walked to the back of the bar where I scratched my head and wondered, "Great job, Mark! Now what?!" While another artist was playing his song, I figured I can just pick an easy one that I love and go for it. So, I pulled out my guitar and just as I was about to strap up, I hear them yell my name over the mic, "Mark! Mark? You're up, man!" I broke out into an all-out flop sweat as I walked towards the stage still trying to figure out 1) how'd I get myself into this and 2)WHAT SONG? WHAT SONG?!!! Then it hits me; my Yamaha is a straight-up acoustic. No pickups! I look to the leader of the house band and ask if they can mic me up for the guitar and he says, "Um, nawww, man. I don't have another mic. HERE, USE MY GUITAR," and hands me what appears to be, through my Jameson eyelids, an Alvarez WY1 Yairi Stage OM/Folk Acoustic Electric hooked to a DI/Reverb/Compressor setup (I couldn't make out the brands). Great. Okay, so while everyone was talking and enjoying themselves (oh, and by the way, these are college students in here, not my age bracket, so I REALLY need to pick something familiar). The lead guitar guy asks, "What are you gonna play, man?" I look at him and shrug. Then I remember the laundry list of songs I played at the hotel and landed on one. "Broken Halos by Chris Stapleton!" With my new found confidence and another tumbler of Jameson, I look at the bass player, drummer, and harmonica guy (yeah, threw me off too) and yell, "Key of Ab, standard 4/4 time. Y'all come in on the second measure!" They responded, "Yeah, man, we got it! Love that song!" I counted out a tempo, stepped up to the mic with his capo on the 1st fret (I had to have him help me with this little rinky dink capo that would NEVER make it onto your show, Tony and Noah) and banged out the open G chord pattern and sang out, "Seen my share of, BROKEN HALOS," AND THE BAND NAILED THE ENTRY!! There were phones in the air with the flashlight on, there were whoops and yahoos and everyone coming in on the chorus! It was amazing, guys! After the final strum, the leader asked me to sing an encore! Yeah, that happened! So, everyone's favorite call back song................Margaritaville, was the first fun song I could think of! I was floored! I hand the guitar back to the guy and he says, "Hey, man, really nice work! Great job!" I needed this night really bad after having to deal with the loss of my mother on 3/26. It's amazing how music picks up where spoken words just don't seem to work (hmmm........where have I read that before?) LOL

Hello guitar geek gurus Tony and Noah!, I have a few words for you and our fellows who might not know...regarding your comments on getting a little somethin going before playing and how its not a good idea! I will try to keep this light . I am a TAC member and avid AT viewer....and a recovering heroin addict(I know, the very sound of it is soooo heavy!) Just wanted to say, strange as it may sound, my intentions were purely creative in the beginning, but after 15 years of being asleep for all intents and purposes, I gotta say, 3 years awake, and it is quite obvious to me, you really have to be alive and aware to create music and especially to ENJOY it!! That's what we want , right?!!...I should make an after school special

Well, the notes from a flat picked guitar articulate so much cleared than finger picked guitar but, somehow, on his solo piece, John Doyle's flat picking sounds more like finger picking. I would like it louder and more articulated.

Bryan Kimsey is the '70s martin Guitar Whisperer' He has now done over 600 Martin neck resets, but his specialty is and probably always will be 70s Martins. Over 90% of these axes have their bridges glued on in the wrong place, and Bryan also will pull the double sized, and 'made of the wrong wood' bridge plate and replace it with appropriate size and kind of wood. He also replaces the amazingly heavy Grover Machine heads that have probably been responsible for 10s on thousands of Martin guitar headstock breaks. Add all this to a smart, funny super hard working Cattle farmer, and you kind of get the start of it. He is an amazing American.

Noah, great job on the Kilt, I haven't been running for a while, long story, but when I did I always did the St. Patrick's day race here in Missoula in a kilt. #smallwin or is it? I've wanted a Telecaster for 40 years, well I finally got one a couple weeks ago... however; since then I've had to buy a pedal, another cable and I've started saving for another amp, my Fishman is nice, but it's just not right for an electric. What can of worms have I opened? Keep up the good work.

I only have one guitar, a Martin Dred Jr. After a year of playing it I thought it was time to have it setup again. Dropped it off Friday and was told it would take up to 5 days.

Noah, I hate to contradict you, but as a retired career dog geek, humans were the first species domesticated by dogs. (More on that if you want.) AND what is that reel to reel behind Tony? My father had a huge reel to reel collection of music, some of which is in my storage awaiting transfer to digital. ALSO can you please talk about guitars with necks suited for those of us with tiny hands? I'm female, I'm coming back to guitar after a 40 year lay off, and the dread neck is simply to huge for my hands. Ok, I'm old, and have some issues with pinky rebellion, but it does seem to be too big, fat, for my fret hand. Even with my TAC breaks because of health, I never miss an Acoustic Tuesday.

#smallwin I have been struggling with my Waterloo WL-12 sitka with maple back and sides. It has always sounded good picking but strumming was a little wonky. Tried the Martin Marquise lights strings and man it sounds fantastic, full bodied and even both strumming and picking!
FYI 2 Dehardun on Reverb.
Noah, utility Kilt? something I need to get before Rock by the Sea! Have my family kilt, but that is pretty hefty wool for summer use.
#tonetalk, guys if you ever need information about amping up acoustics don't hesitate to ask. That's my job!
12 frets rejoice!!! I talked to Dana and he was all hip on 12 frets and now that's all I use! Centers the bridge in the lower bout and moves the X brace, anyway always sound better than 14!

ok I was laughing about when tony was teasing noah about who he looks like (it was about a new hair cut for Noah and who he sort of looked like... )and it was going down hill. Then I made the comments in continuation and then I realized that oops what could be funny may not work online. I think it was up for a day and then i decided to delete in case it was not taken as a joke. I love Tony’s long beard and hair, it’s his trademark. You took it out of context. It is hard to joke on line so sorry. You got me.
