Pavor
Pavor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh life can't satisfy my pain and misery

Fear... demoralized
God... sends holy messengers
Cry... darken your life
Lost in the sphere, within no soul remains

Falling... in your sleep they lurk to haunt you
Bleeding... colliding with your soul and sanity

Your dreams increase their wrath to get you
Reality and sense of life will soon be gone

Haunted by the creatures that were told to save your soul
Embodiment of evil's what you see
Trapped inside your world, pain no one will ever know
In the holy end your blood will flow

They are told to be merciful and so sweet
But now you must see, they incarnate to steal your sanity

You're inferior and helpless
They will subjugate your needs

Immortalized,
These nightmares of your death appear all night
And smash your beliefs with agony

And now... it might satisfy to dream eternally

Overall Meaning

The opening line of Pavor's eponymous song sets the tone for a grim and unfulfilled existence. The singer's pain and misery are too great to be satisfied by life itself. The verse that follows suggests the singer's feelings of hopelessness are compounded by fear and a sense of being demoralized. The idea that God sends holy messengers, which one would assume are intended to bring comfort and salvation, instead causes the singer to cry and further darkens their life. The phrase "lost in the sphere, within no soul remains" could be interpreted a couple of ways. It might suggest the singer, though alive, feels empty and soulless, or it could be a reference to the spiritual realm, with the singer feeling cut off from it.

The second verse delves deeper into the subject of nightmares that haunt the singer. The imagery is graphic and the words "bleeding" and "colliding" add to the sense of physical and emotional turmoil. The dreams seem to have a life of their own, increasing in intensity as they try to "get" the singer. The line "reality and sense of life will soon be gone" suggests that the singer is losing touch with reality and that the dreams are taking on a greater significance.

The third verse deals with a sinister quality that is becoming apparent in the holy messengers. They were once regarded as merciful and sweet, but now they are incarnate to steal the singer's sanity. The line "you're inferior and helpless, they will subjugate your needs" confirms the singer's sense of vulnerability and a lack of control. The fourth and final verse ends with the idea that eternal dreaming might provide some satisfaction. It's a bleak conclusion to a song that is clearly dealing with dark and troubling themes.

Pavor is and will always be a top band. I listen to Furioso and the debut all the time. Cool to hear this demo.

Discovering so many great obscure German death metal bands lately!! Pavor should have been signed to Nuclear Blast Germany back in the day!! Oh well, we can enjoy it now at least...(one of the best 90s German DM demos that I've heard).

@FunerealObsession

I love A Pale Debilitating Autumn and Furioso but htis is the first time I've heard this demo.
