Wraith
Peace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Such a waste, cut your silky noise
Uuuh, I don't wanna see you
Uuuh, I don't wanna see you
Chorus:
You could be my ice age sugar
Blow me like a floating feather
We'll be dark, we'll be dark, we'll be dark forever.
It
appears that the lyrics to "Wraith" by Peace are somewhat cryptic and nuanced, particularly the opening lines: "Close your eyes, my leather-hearted boys / Such a waste, cut your silky noise." It is not entirely clear who the "leather-hearted boys" are and why they are being instructed to "close their eyes." However, there is a sense of distance or detachment in these lines, as if the singer is trying to push away or ignore something. The reference to "silky noise" suggests that there is some kind of sweet or soothing sound that is being rejected or denied.
The chorus of the song is more straightforward in its imagery, albeit quite dark and foreboding. The singer describes the potential lover as an "ice age sugar" who can make them shiver and blow them like a floating feather. The repeated assertion that "We'll be dark forever" reinforces the sense of ominous energy that runs throughout the song. There is a sense of yearning or desire in the singer's words, but also a sense of fear and uncertainty.
Taken as a whole, "Wraith" seems to be a meditation on the complex emotions that can arise in the context of love and desire. The singer seems torn between the allure of intimacy and the fear of being consumed or destroyed by it. The metaphorical language and dreamlike imagery serve to heighten these conflicting emotions, creating a vivid and haunting portrait of a complex human experience.
