Begin the Beguine
Pearl Django Lyrics

It brings back the sound of music so tender
It brings back a night of tropical splendor
It brings back a memory ever green
I'm with you once more under the stars
And down by the shore an orchestra's playing
And even the palms seem to be swaying
To live it again is past all endeavor
Except when that tune clutches my heart
And there we are, swearing to love forever
And promising never, never to part
What moments divine, what rapture serene
Till clouds came along to disperse the joys we had tasted
And now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted
I know but too well what they mean
So don't let them begin the beguine
Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember
Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
When they begin the beguine
Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, please make them play
Till the stars that were there before return above you
Till you whisper to me once more, "Darling, I love you"
Then we suddenly know what heaven we're in
When they begin the, begin the, begin the beguine
When they begin the, begin the, begin the beguine
When they begin the beguine
The lyrics to "Begin the Beguine" by Pearl Django capture the nostalgic feeling of a moment in the past that is brought back to the singer's memory by the sound of the beguine, a dance style popular in the 1930s. The melody of the song is so tender that it brings back the night of tropical splendor where the singer and their loved one were together under the stars, listening to an orchestra play by the shore. The atmosphere was so romantic that even the palm trees seemed to sway to the rhythm of the music. The singer reminisces about the divine moments and serene rapture they shared until the clouds came along and dispersed the joy they had tasted. Despite everything, the beguine tune still clutches the singer's heart, reminding them of their love forever.
The lyrics' nostalgic tone is intensified by the mention of the chance that was wasted and how the singer knows all too well what others mean when they curse it. The singer pleads for the beguine not to begin again, urging their past flame to stay an ember and not let the dead desire sleep. Ultimately, the singer gives in to their emotions and begs for the beguine to begin once more until they whisper to each other once more of each other's love, and they know they are in heaven.
