My grandma’s next-door neighbor was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Apparently he got blown off the deck of the Arizona and ended up being in the water for like two days, clinging to wreckage. He was injured and slicked in oil and had lasting health problems because of his injuries. He was so traumatized by it that you couldn’t even say the word “Japanese” without triggering him. Apparently. I only met him twice and it’s not like I asked him about it. That would have been rude AF.

it was probably 2 hours, though in that kind of crisis it most likely felt like 2 days

Not two days. All recovered in three hours

I feel bad for the men that were asked to tell those horrifically traumatizing memories. Look in their eyes, it says it all.

Guess that makes sense whit what you said, cause I can't see into those narrow slits of eyes.

ONLY IF Ex And Deceased US President Roosevelt Would NOT Have Kept Stealing Admiral Kimmel's Warships From Pearl Harbor And Diverting Them To The Atlantic Theater In Helping Our Allies In Europe, Therefore Ex And Deceased US President Roosevelt Could Have Forced Japan To Come To Terms, Instead Of That Lackey Japanese Emperor Delaying Practice In Sending His Japanese Foreign Minsters A Lot Sooner, And Instead Of Planning A Surprise Attack Upon Pearl Harbor On December 7, 1941, Therefore Admiral Kimmel Would Had Kept His Admiral Bars On His Uniform Though Out WW2!!!!!!!

I was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1991 for the 50th anniversary of the attack and talked to a number of the men who fought that day. Without exception they were haunted by the things they saw and experienced. In spite of the many historical inaccuracies this documentary was well worth the time. The best presentation I've ever seen was the old one shown at the at the Arizona memorial prior to boarding the launch out to USS Arizona. One left that video truly shaken and humbled by the images and narration. Rest in peace, gallant crew of Arizona.
