Garden
Pearl Jam퀀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The direction of the eye
So misleading
The defection of the soul
Nauseously quick
I don't question
Our existence
I just question
Our modern needs

I will walk, with my hands bound
I will walk, with my face blood
I will walk, with my shadow flag
Into your garden
Garden of stone

After all is done
And we're still alone
I won't be taken
Yet I'll go

With my hands bound
I will walk, with my face blood
I will walk, with my shadow flag
Into your garden
Garden of stone

I don't show
I don't share
I don't need
What you have to give, yeah

I will walk, with my hands bound
I will walk, with my face blood
I will walk, with my shadow flag
Into your garden
Garden of
I will walk, with my hands bound
I will walk, into your garden
Garden of stone
I don't know

I don't care
I don't need you for me to live

Overall Meaning

In "Garden," Pearl Jam seems to be criticizing the idea of modern society and its values. The first two lines in the opening verse suggest that what we see with our eyes and what we feel with our souls can be misleading and heavily influenced by societal norms. The line "I just question our modern needs" implies that they are examining what society has deemed important and whether it is actually necessary. The chorus, "I will walk, with my hands bound; I will walk, with my face blood; I will walk, with my shadow flag; Into your garden, Garden of stone," suggests that despite the potential harm and oppression that may come with societal expectations, the singer is still willing to conform to them if it means entering the "garden" - or the realm of the majority.

In the second and third verses, the singer asserts their independence, saying "I don't show, I don't share, I don't need what you have to give." Finally, the closing lines "I don't know, I don't care, I don't need you for me to live" solidify the idea that the singer is content without adhering to societal norms or seeking validation from others.

NCL knocked this out the park!

At the start of the video, I thought Danny was outside the suite, bc of how tall the ceilings were!!

And the exit sign kinda threw me off, til I realized it's easy to get lost in there!! They need a map for that thing!! And that might be the best outdoor space I've seen.

Also, that 1st bathroom was amazing & none of the bedrooms felt tight or cramped. And even though the other bathrooms were on the smaller side, they were still nice.

Bravo NCL, bravo.

The renovation puts both Regent and Oceania together in my opinion! Great job, NCL!

I had no idea the NCL Pearl had been retrofitted with a Haven area. That suite is way to big for the two of us. I loved the NCL Jewel years ago. I have not looked to see if it has been retrofitted. We stayed in room 9001 and loved it. It was on the front of the ship and had an Amazingly large deck for sunbathing.

We get to stay in this room in June and are so excited!! Thank you for this preview! We are counting down the days!!!

My grandpa used to always get this suite and let me say it is amazing and the jacuzzi is like 2x bigger then the pool deck and the sauna is amazing

The suite also takes about half of the ship

Ian

Sounds like heaven! Your grandpa really took care of you.

I've sailed most of the NCL ships. The Pearl is my favorite ship. I'll be on the Joy in April and the Encore in June. I've also have been in that cabin during one of my cruises by invite of the guest. I party hard however I don't get angry.

This is an amazing room. Do they arrange for someone to play the piano for you as part of your stay there? I feel like some of these suites I’d want a longer cruise to truly appreciate it.

The piano is probably a self-playing model, but I imagine it's possible to have a musician brought in to play for you for the right price.

OMG! This feels like a tour of an NYC apartment. My only gripes with this: The whole suite could use a revamp in the floor plan (makes no sense) and why so much deck space with no pool?
Either way, I’d stay here.
