Formed after the demise of Gossard and Ament's previous band, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with their debut album, Ten, in 1991. Ten stayed on the Billboard 200 chart for nearly five years, and has gone on to become one of the highest-selling rock records ever, going 13Ă— platinum in the United States. Released in 1993, Pearl Jam's second album, Vs., sold over 950,000 copies in its first week of release, setting the record for most copies of an album sold in its first week of release at the time. Their third album, Vitalogy (1994), became the second-fastest-selling CD in history at the time, with more than 877,000 units sold in its first week.
One of the key bands in the grunge movement of the early 1990s, Pearl Jam's members often shunned popular music industry practices such as making music videos or participating in interviews. The band also sued Ticketmaster, claiming it had monopolized the concert-ticket market. In 2006, Rolling Stone described the band as having "spent much of the past decade deliberately tearing apart their own fame."
Pearl Jam had sold more than 85 million albums worldwide by 2018, including nearly 32 million albums in the United States by 2012, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 in its first year of eligibility. They were ranked eighth in a readers' poll by Rolling Stone magazine in its "Top Ten Live Acts of All Time" issue. Throughout its career, the band has also promoted wider social and political issues, from pro-abortion rights sentiments to opposition to George W. Bush's presidency. Vedder acts as the band's spokesman on these issues.

Blue Red And Grey
Pearl Jam Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get up early just to watch the sun rise
Other people like it more when there's fire in the sky
Worship the sun when it's high
Some people go for those sultry evenings
Cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day
I dig every second
As long as you are on my mind
Each precious moment has it's special charm
It's all right when you're around, rain or shine
Some people seem to only live after midnight
That has faces always seem so pale
And [Incomprehensible] who must have sunlight
They say a sun tan never fails
I was a man who worked the night shifts
I was lucky to get a job and some pay
Now I like every minute of the day
I dig every second
I can laugh in the snow and rain
I get a buzz from being cold and wet
The pleasure seems to balance out the pain
And so you see that I'm completely crazy
I even shun the south of France
The people on my hill, they say I'm lazy
But when they sleep, I sing and dance
Some people go for those sultry evenings
Cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day
I like every minute of the day
The lyrics of Pearl Jam's "Blue Red And Grey" examine different perspectives on time and the appreciation of moments. Some people are enthralled with the morning and the sunrise, while others prefer richer and more intense skies. Some people embrace the sultry evenings, with cocktails in the blue, red, and grey. However, the singer insists that they like every minute of the day, and they appreciate those moments all the more as long as they are with someone special.
The song argues against the view that time is something to be raced through or avoided. Instead, it celebrates the joys that can be found in every moment, rain or shine. The lyrics even suggest that the singer welcomes feeling cold and wet, seeing such discomfort as just another opportunity to experience the world in a different way. Moreover, the song suggests that happiness and appreciation can even be found in hard work, as the singer mentions their past as a night-shift worker.
Overall, "Blue Red And Grey" emphasizes the importance of cherishing life and embracing the present moment. The song encourages the listener to find joy in every situation, and to take the time to appreciate and savor the world around them.

Yes,Pete is a genius... But it's not whether Pete's better than Eddie, both go to the core, both bring out the melancolie and beauty and shortness of this life. Both sing from the heart and manifest this. Both are musicians connecting to their listeners, and yes camrybezzo this is the most beautiful song in the world.
