Go
Pearl Jam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh please don't go out on me don't go out on me now
Never acted up before don't go on me now
I swear I never took it for granted just thought of it now
Suppose I abused you just passing it on
Go
Fuck

Once fastened servile now your getting sharp
Moving oh so swiftly with such disarm
I pulled the covers over him shoulda' pulled the alarm
Turned to my nemesis a fool no fucking god
No
Time
Suck
My

Please don't go on me
Don't go on me
Don't go on me
Don't go on me
Please

Suck, blood, touch
Please tunnel vision
Tuck
Time
See

Please, please, please
Don't go on me
Don't go on me
Don't go on me
Don't go on me

Please, don't you want me, don't go on me
Please, don't go on me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Go" by Pearl Jam seem to be expressing a sense of desperation and possibly even betrayal. The singer is pleading with someone not to leave, fearing they may abandon him just as he feels he has been abandoned before. The opening lines reflect this fear of being left behind, with the singer imploring the other person not to "go out on me."

The subsequent lines suggest a sense of regret and guilt, with the singer acknowledging that they may have mistreated the other person ("Suppose I abused you just passing it on"). The line "I swear I never took it for granted just thought of it now" seems to indicate that the singer is only realizing the importance of this other person now that they are in danger of losing them.

The later lines in the song bring in more vague and erratic imagery, with the singer referring to his nemesis and calling him a "fool no fucking god." The repeated pleas of "please don't go on me" become more desperate and fragmented, almost as if the singer is losing his grip on reality.

Overall, the song seems to be capturing a moment of intense desperation and fear of abandonment, with the singer grappling with a sense of regret and guilt over past actions.

@vanfire4637

Check out underground bands like Manilla Road who 1:11 mins in bring in the same beat as Pearl Jam. This is 1980 by the way. Song.. The Dream GOes on.

@@vanfire4637 Ur right... Sounds very similar..

@freddybeer

The bass sound alone is like a monster!

I remember buying VS on day of release and walking home thinking 'I'm going to be disappointed. They can't top TEN.' What a wake up call GO was! This is basically the PERFECT opening track to any album. It's a vicious statement where PJ were at that time. It's abrasive, aggressive, unique, original, tuneful and apt. Whenever I need a reminder just how GOOD music can get, I return to this track!

@ridleyroid9060

+freddybeer Same can't be said for the rest of their career unfortunately.

@freddybeer

+Ridley On Steroids Got that right!

@adamswanson1895

+Ridley On Steroids How many championships can a team win? Would the Chicago Bulls and Micheal Jordan be more respected if they won more in the 90's? Pearl Jam still puts on amazing shows and have a HUGE library of great songs. I strongly disagree with you here, we all fall from grace at some point.
