Porch
Pearl Jam Featuring Soundgarden And Mad Season Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What the fuck is this world
Running to, you didn't
Leave a message, at least I
Could of learned your voice one last time
Daily mine field, this could
Be my time, 'bout you?
Would you hit me?
Would you hit me?
Oh oh oh, oh whoa whoa, oh

All the bills go by, and
Initiatives are taken up
By the middle, there ain't gonna be any middle any more
And the cross I'm bearing home
Ain't indicative of my place, left the porch
Left the porch, oh oh oh

Hear my name, take a good look
This could be the day
Hold my hand, walk beside me
I just need to say

Hear my name, take a good look
This could be the day
Hold my hand, walk beside me
I just need to say
I could not take a-just one day
I know when I would not ever touch you
Hold you, feel you in my arms ever again

Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah,

Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Porch" by Pearl Jam Featuring Soundgarden and Mad Season delve into themes of loss, regret, and desperation. In the first verse, the singer expresses their frustration at being unable to reach someone they care about, feeling as though they missed their chance to hear their voice one last time. The line "daily minefield, this could be my time, 'bout you?" suggests the constant danger and uncertainty of life, and the possibility of sudden loss. The following lines "would you hit me? would you hit me?" have been interpreted in various ways, but may refer to a desire for some kind of visceral emotional connection or release.

The second verse tackles the notion that the world is changing, and there can no longer be a comfortable "middle" ground. The title of the song, "Porch," may refer to the idea of leaving behind a safe, sheltered space and venturing out into the unknown. The singer notes that the journey they are on is not representative of their place in society, perhaps suggesting a feeling of being lost or misunderstood. The chorus repeats the plea for recognition and connection, the desperate need to be seen and heard before it is too late.

LYRICS 🎼🎵🎶

Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again
Oh, feelin' maybe he'll see a little better, set a days, ooh yeah
Oh, hand out, faces that he sees time again ain't that familiar,
oh yeah
Oh, dark grin, he can't help, when he's happy looks insane, oh yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Life again, life again...

Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to read, ooh yeah
Oh, prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything
Oh, feelin', understands the weather of the winter's on its way
Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Whispering hands, gently lead him away
Him away, him away...
Yeah!
Woo...ah yeah...fuck it up...

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again, yeah
Oh, whispering hands, gently lead him away
Him away, him away...
Yeah!
Woo...uh huh...yeah, yeah, fuck em up again...

EVEN FLOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!

THOUGHTS ARRIVE LIKE BUTTERFLIES!!!!!

Is what I sang and said out loudly when I was going down a real dark Waterslide at a Water Theme Park in Gold Coast 2012.

I went back up for a second round of the same Slide because it was that awesome. The Lifeguard however? Heard me sing the lyrics to the start of the chorus and he sang it with me on my second trip down!!!

The nostalgia ❤❤❤❤
