Peddy D Asher is the Herbman from Barbados in the West Indies. He is a Bajan reggae musician. He was born on 20 Dec 1974, in Queen Street, Speightstown (Little Bristol) in St Peters, Barbados, and raised his whole life in Speightstown. He has worked with Twin Man, Shuga Shawn Jah Band, Jimmy 'Senyah' Haynes (Steel Pulse) and Max Justice among others.
Music and faith
Peddy D is one of the most influential reggae stars Barbados has ever produced. Peddy D Asher ascribes to the 12 Tribes of Israel sect of Rastafarianism which is a sect which is known for its orthodoxy in terms of its stringent rejection of values associated with western culture and colonialism. The Western world is currently imploding with a failed banking system, failed 'democratic' system, failed 'health' system and a failed media. Peddy D has followed in the footsteps of reggae greats such as Bob Marley in singing about this failure of 'Babylon' and its oppressive system.
Peddy D, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Sizzla, Richie Spice, Junior Kelly and Anthony B, are leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality, social consciousness, and resistance against perceived agents of oppression.
Peddy eschews the commercial mainstream and dedicates his life to bringing up his children. This elusive and mysterious artist is rumoured to have long awaited new album of material in the works.
