The song "Amelia" by Pedro Aznar tells a story that is reflective, melancholic, and mysterious. The opening lines of the song set the scene on a hot desert, where the singer witnessed six airplanes flying past, leaving trails of smoke behind them. He mentions a hexagram in the sky and the strings on his guitar, which builds up a sense of foreboding. The chorus of the song, "Amelia... es una falsa alarma más" (Amelia... is another false alarm), suggests that the singer has had experience with false alarms before, which makes the listener curious about what happened.
The lyrics then shift to the singer's thoughts on life and the impact of modern technology. He talks about how the noise of jets can lull someone into a trance-like state, altering their perception of time and seasons. He then adds that life can become like a fetish album, and Amelia is just another false alarm in that album. The singer also reflects on the fact that people can tell you where they have been, but until you have been there yourself, you cannot know what it truly feels like. The next stanza is more personal, and the singer reveals that he wishes Amelia was by his side, but he must obey her will to never see him again. He describes how he has hidden his pain, but it has become an obsession.
The song ends with the singer dreaming about flying and Amelia being a false alarm. The final lines of the song represent a mix of reality and fantasy, where the singer is en route to an unknown destination, possibly a field without fences, with the ghosts of the airplanes and Amelia beside him. The song is a complex and poetic reflection on love, loss, and the transitory nature of life.
