When will those clouds all disappear?
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here?
With no lovin' in our soul and no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
But Angie, Angie
You can't say we never tried
Angie, you're beautiful
But I hate that sadness in your eyes
Angie, I still love you baby
Remember all those nights we cried
All the dreams were held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here? Yeah
All the dreams we held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke
Hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie, I still love you baby
Everywhere I look I see your eyes
There ain't a woman that comes close to you
Come on baby dry your eyes
But Angie, Angie
Ain't it good to be alive
Angie, Angie, you can't say we never tried
The song "Angie" by Pedro Aznar seems to be a message to someone called Angie - possibly an ex-lover or a friend, asking where life will take them now. The opening lines express a desire for the clouds of uncertainty and doubt to disappear so that Angie and the singer can see a clear path ahead. The next lines indicate that both of them are discontent - they have no love or money, and can't claim to be satisfied. Despite this dissatisfaction, the singer emphasizes that they have tried their best, alluding to the fact that perhaps they once had more fulfilling lives together.
The second verse is addressed to Angie specifically, acknowledging her beauty but also the sadness in her eyes that the singer hates to see. They reminisce about the nights when they cried together and held close dreams that have now all gone up in smoke. Yet the singer still loves her and wants to know where to go from here. The final verse urges Angie to at least dry her eyes and look around, reminding her that nobody else comes close to her. The song ends on a more optimistic note, with the lines "Ain't it good to be alive / Angie, Angie, you can't say we never tried."
Overall, "Angie" seems to be a reflective and bittersweet ballad about two people who once had high hopes and grand dreams, but have since fallen on hard times. The singer expresses love and regret for what they have lost, but also a sense of determination to keep trying and make the most of what they still have.
