El Gavilán Pollero
Pedro Infante Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Se llevó mi polla el gavilán pollero
La pollita que más quiero
Que me sirva la otra copa cantinero
Sin mi pollita yo me muero
Se llevó mi polla el gavilán pollero
La pollita que más quiero
Que me sirva la otra copa cantinero
Sin mi pollita yo me muero

Gavilán, gavilán, gavilán
Te llevaste mi polla, gavilán
Si tú vuelves mi polla para acá
Yo te doy todito el gallinero

Gavilán, gavilán, gavilán
Te llevaste mi polla, gavilán
Si tú vuelves mi polla para acá

Yo te doy todito el gallinero
Se llevó mi polla el gavilán pollero

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "El Gavilán Pollero" by Pedro Infante tell a story of a man who has lost his beloved chicken to a hawk, and he sings about his grief and despair. He addresses the hawk directly, calling it "gavilán" (which means sparrowhawk or kestrel in Spanish), and pleads with it to return his chicken to him. He sings that this particular chicken was the one he loved the most, and without it, he feels incomplete and lost. He asks the cantinero (bartender) to pour him another drink, but even that cannot console him without his beloved chicken.

The song uses the metaphor of the hawk and chicken to represent the loss of something cherished and irreplaceable. The man's attachment to his chicken is so strong that he is willing to give up his entire gallinero (chicken coop) to the hawk in exchange for its return. The melancholic melody of the song matches the mood of the lyrics, evoking feelings of sadness and longing.

Me encanta.
