A native of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Vargas was a classically-trained tenor who originally sang opera but gained fame with his renditions of popular songs. He made many musical guest appearances in films from 1936 onward, but also had more substantial acting roles in a few pictures, achieving over 70 screen credits in total.
In 1942, Vargas performed at the White House for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of many honors he received during his long career. He also performed in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Vargas died in Mexico City, Mexico at age 83.
Piel Canela

No seria tan inmensami tristeza
Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu
Y solamente tu-y-tu-y-tu
Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu
Y nadie mas que tu
Ojos negros piel canela
Que me llegan a desesperar
Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu
Y solamente tu-y-tu-y-tu
Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu
Y nadie mas que tu
The lyrics of Pedro Vargas's song "Piel Canela" express an intense yearning for the love and physical presence of a specific person. The singer proclaims that he would be willing to give up even the most wondrous things in the world - like the stars in the sky or the vastness of the sea - if only the blackness of the beloved's eyes would remain and the cinnamon shade of their skin would stay untouched. The singer is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of this person's love, and anything that might threaten that love would be a source of immense sadness.
The chorus of "Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu, y solamente tu-y-tu-y-tu, me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu, y nadie mas que tu" (I care about you - you - you, and only you - you - you, I care about you - you - you, and no one else but you) further highlights the exclusive and powerful nature of the singer's love. The repeated phrase emphasizes that this person's love is the most important thing in the singer's life, and that he would not want anything else if he could not have this love.
Overall, "Piel Canela" is a song that expresses an all-consuming passion for a particular person. The lyrics are emotive and deeply felt, and they convey the intensity of the singer's devotion to his beloved.

Que se quede el infinito sin estrellas
Even if the boundless universe lost all its stars
Or if the mighty sea lost its vastness
As long as the darkness of your eyes remains the same, let me die
And the cinnamon color of your skin remains unchanged
Si perdiera el arco iris su belleza
If the rainbow lost its beauty
And the flowers lost their fragrance and color
No seria tan inmensami tristeza
Nothing would compare to the immense sadness
Como aquello de quedame sin tu amor
Of being left without your love
Me importas tu-y-tu-y-tu
You matter to me
Y solamente tu-y-tu-y-tu
And only you
Ojos negros piel canela
Black eyes, cinnamon skin
Que me llegan a desesperar
That drive me to despair
Y nadie mas que tu
And no one else but you
