Mojo
Peeping Tom Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Those haunting rhymes are keeping the time,
but they'll never get through to me.
It's my party, but I'm waiting for someone to start it.
It's my party, there's no one but me in the corner.
Gotta get my mojo runnin', engine hummin', don't I?

Now roll it up and smoke it again.
Now light me up and snort it again.
Now fix it up and shoot it again.
I can't believe I did it again.

Keep haunting me, taunting me,
but they'll never get through to me

It's my party, but I'm waiting for someone to start it
My party, there's blood on the ceiling, the carpet
Gotta get my mojo runnin', engine hummin', don't I?

Now roll it up and smoke it again.
It's bottoms up and drink it again.
Now fix it up and shoot it again.
I can't believe I did it again.

I'm readin' the signs, makes me wonder why they're getting through to me.
Gotta get my mojo runnin', engine hummin', don't I?
Gotta get my mojo runnin', engine hummin', don't I?

Now roll it up and smoke it again.
It's bottoms up and drink it again.
Now fix it up and shoot it again.
I can't believe I did it again.

Oops, I did it again

Overall Meaning

The song "Mojo" by Peeping Tom is a haunting and intense exploration of addiction and self-destruction. The lyrics describe the singer's struggle to regain control over their life, while also acknowledging the allure of their destructive habits. Throughout the song, the singer refers to their addiction as their "mojo," implying that it has a sinister hold on them.

The opening lines of the song illustrate the singer's frustration with the constant presence of their addiction, which is represented by "haunting rhymes." Despite their best efforts, they cannot shake the hold it has over them. The chorus repeats the phrase "It's my party," which could be interpreted as the singer taking ownership of their addiction, but also feeling trapped by it. The line "there's no one but me in the corner" adds to the sense of isolation and loneliness that often accompanies addiction.

The second half of the song takes a more direct approach, with the singer describing their drug use in explicit detail. The repetition of "Now roll it up and smoke it again" and other similar lines emphasizes the cyclical nature of addiction, and the fact that even when the singer is aware of the consequences of their actions, they cannot help but return to their destructive habits. The final line "Oops, I did it again" is a reference to the famous Britney Spears song of the same name, and serves as a bleak reminder that addiction is never truly conquered.

Patton is one of the most important and underrated artists of contemporary music, most are unaware of his range vocally and artistically as well as the reach of his influence

@AliAsh96

Exactly! He's the best! However, he doesn't like to be praised but if only he knew how much his fans appreciate his talent as a whole.

@vansland

I've been studying Mike Patton since the early 90's & still quite figure him out. He's one of the most unique vocalists I've ever heard.

@hu5films862

100% if not the most unique vocalist, personally I’d say Layne Staley first then Mike then Chris Cornell then Jack Black then Ozzy and so on😅

@dramaqueenlp

I wish there would be a second album. This is by far my favorite Mike Patton project.

I’m getting more and more into Peeping Tom. I still think FNM is my favorite but Peeping Tom is climbing up there for me.
