See See Rider
Peggy Lee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See, see, rider
See what you have done?
See, see, rider
See what you have done?

You made me love you
But for you, I'm not the one
Goin' away, baby
Won't be back 'til fall
Goin' away, baby
Won't be back 'til fall

If I find me a good man, I won't be back at all

See, see, rider
See what you have done?
See, see, rider
See what you have done?

You made me love you
But for you, I'm not the one

Goin' away, baby
Won't be back 'til fall

If I find me a good man, won't be back at all

Lord, whisk me back 50 years so I could have seen this in person!

There must be literally hundreds of artists who recorded "See See Rider" and undoubtedly thousands have sung it. I'm partial to Ma Rainey's, Leadbelly's and Mississippi John Hurt's versions but the superb Peggy Lee is also very much in her element with this performance.

Am I dreaming? Lethal note-bending, and a visual 10!

Superb... Peggy Lee was Ice Jazz..... this clip is from a DVD of a TV show called Fever: the Music of Peggy Lee, which is a terrific 60-minute doc of the great singer.

Funny these crazy words. Was puzzled for years. But its a poem, written about 1900, called Easy Rider. The story is a jockey sweet talks a maid to put money on a horse (Easy Rider) which "can't lose". He easy-rides off in a Pullman train with her money. The horse is nowhere.
But Miss Lee as usual is brilliant with her unusual sliding of the notes. Oh, what a girl.

"See See Rider", also known as "C.C. Rider" or "See See Rider Blues" or "Easy Rider" is a popular American 12-bar blues song. It was first recorded by Gertrude "Ma" Rainey in 1924, and since then has been recorded by many other artists; including Peggy Lee and Rory Emerald. ♥
