Climb ev'ry mountain
Search high and low
Follow ev'ry by-way
Every path you know

Climb ev'ry mountain
Ford ev'ry stream
Follow ev'ry rainbow
'Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give
Everyday of your life
For as long as you live

Climb ev'ry mountain
Ford ev'ry stream
Follow ev'ry rainbow
'Til you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give
Everyday of your life
For as long as you live

Climb ev'ry mountain
Ford ev'ry stream

Follow ev'ry rainbow
'Til you find your dream

Overall Meaning

Peggy Wood's song Climb Ev'ry Mountain was composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II as part of the musical The Sound of Music. The song has become an inspirational anthem over the years and its lyrics encourage people to pursue their dreams, no matter how difficult the path may be. The song's title, "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" is a metaphor for life's journey.

The first verse encourages us to leave no stone unturned in our search for our dreams. We must look high and low, follow every by-way, and explore every path we know. The second verse emphasizes the importance of perseverance, urging us to overcome all obstacles to achieve our dreams. It suggests that we should not only climb every mountain and ford every stream but also follow every rainbow, as this symbolizes hope for the future.

The third verse reminds us that dreams require hard work and dedication, and need all the love we can give them. The song suggests that we must be willing to give our dreams the time and attention they deserve, every day for as long as we live, in order to make them a reality. The final repetition of the chorus drives home the message that the pursuit of our dreams is an ongoing journey that requires us to keep exploring and pushing ourselves to new heights.

I went to this in the 60's with my mother. It was her favorite movie. I don't think she ever found the courage to live this way, but I did

@excellNexcel

Perhaps she couldn't because she had you and your siblings too early

This comment resonated a lot with me.. My mother now have to use a wheelchair and need help ambulating after spending her life providing for her other siblings and her children, while married to an abusive husband. I am struggling a lot on my own due to my bad starting point in life, and I desperately want to give back to my mother who is left to live her remaining days with unfulfilled dreams. I want to live her dream while she is still around to see me, to at least make her feel proud that her blood sweat and tears have given her children a better life.

Maybe her dream was to prepare your destiny .

Maria! The memories this movie soundtrack brings me, is unforgettable!😢

@robertlight3012

I don't see how any one could listen to this music without developing a lump in their throat the size of the Titanic. Wow!!

@kevindube7096

I haven’t seen the movie, I don’t like vanilla operatic singing, and “sweeping” overly sugary sweet film scores musically do nothing for me.... so, nope 👎🏽 that’s a “no lump” from me dawg

Celine dion is still the queen

😢la verdad si son muy hermosos recuerdos y si hacen llorar

In spite of how young I was when I first saw this movie I was able to grasp the meaning of this song. Maria had just left the von Trapp villa because shed had fallen in love with the captain. The mother abbess is telling her "Go back to him. it's okay for you to love that man."
