Evergreen
Pekoe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know wisdom is one I greet after broken bones
Oh, I've skin to be stitched and the heal has something to show

Sometimes we learn too slow
And stumble through shadows of stories we've told
Let them come, let them go
These feelings are visitors that don't knock on doors
'Cause the light shines through the cracks in our hearts
onto the flaws in our souls
Where the evergreen grows
We'll never really need to ever really know,
'Cause these woods are safe place to go

A fire can burn me, but it cannot reap what I sow
'Cause these plant lives depend on my hopes
And I've much for a world full of evergreen trees

Oh, I know
It ain't simple to make like it's easy
As much as I'd like to believe
These feelings are visitors that don't knock on doors

'Cause the light shines through the cracks in our hearts
Onto the flaws in our souls
Where the evergreens grow
We'll never really need to ever really know
'Cause these woods are a place we call home

When we cry out our tears, it's a storm of our strength
Sending rain to these forests inside
And to face through this downpour is sunlight that counts for
Your heart's insight
Evergreen sleep well tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pekoe's song "Evergreen" explore the idea that the experiences we go through in life, whether good or bad, shape us and make us who we are. The first lines mention breaking bones and the healing process that follows, suggesting that pain and suffering can be instrumental in attaining wisdom. But sometimes, the process of learning and growing can be slow and accompanied by darkness, represented by the "shadows of stories we've told". However, the singer encourages us to let these feelings come and go like "visitors that don't knock on doors", acknowledging that they are a natural part of life's journey.

The chorus speaks to the resilience of the human spirit, represented by the evergreen tree, which grows in the face of adversity. The cracks in our hearts and flaws in our souls are exposed by the light, but it also allows us to see the beauty in imperfection. The singer asserts that we don't always need to understand everything, that sometimes it's okay to just be in the present moment and feel at home in the woods. The final lines acknowledge that tears and storms are a part of life as well, but they ultimately give way to sunlight and the insight that comes with facing our struggles.

Overall, the lyrics of "Evergreen" are a reminder to embrace the highs and lows of life and find comfort in the fact that the evergreen tree, a symbol of growth and resilience, will keep growing no matter what.

I don't remember if I ever commented on one of your videos before, but this song means so much to me. I've been going through some very hard times the past couple of years and your music never fails to cheer me up, makes me think like life isn't too bad after all. So from the bottom of my heart: thank you.

I want to say something. I haven't known this song for a long time, but at those times when I listen to it, it just makes me feel relaxed in a special way. As if I'm connected to a very calm area that I haven't known before in myself. It doesn't happen that frequently, not with songs or anything else. Your voice, your lyrics and that melody. I thank you and would be forever grateful for showing us that masterpiece. 💞

i was 14 when i first listened to this song. im 20 now. for some reason it stuck with me at the time and i would loop it on my way to the north of my country, to baguio city (philippines) for new years '15. this song is attached to my memories of watching the orange-lit road from a moving car, the smell of pine trees, and feeling cold air at night, and even my first high-school crush. on the way to my cousin's place with this song on repeat on my earphones, i remember wearing my favorite red sweater back then (i no longer have it tho). listening to it now just reminds me of new years eve in simpler times, when i was young and innocent-- knowing nothing of the world. i feel very nostalgic right now. i'd forgotten this song but for some reason the memory of its melody began to play in my head. after searching through bits and pieces of my memory i finally found it. just wanted to share-- this is such a beautiful song.

@klylet

Normally I stray away from music after a few months because they cease to make me feel things, but this EP continuously makes me feel relaxed. I only come to these songs if I need to calm down or just recline. Thank you for having such a soothing voice and making such amazing music!
