Hold you Colour
Pendulum Lyrics

Soaking through
Colours that hold us up against the wall
Soaking through
Colours that hold us up against the wall

Hold your colours against the wall
When they take everything away
Hold your colours against the wall

(I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)
(Twisted the knife and opened your eyes)
(I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)

Soaking through

Hold your colours against the wall
When they take everything away
Hold your colours against the wall

Soaking through

(I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)
(I twisted the knife and)

Ah, she looked into your eyes
And saw what laid beneath
Don't try to save yourself
The circle is complete
We're reaching out and to tell you
Nothing else can touch me

Soaking through

Hold your colours against the wall
When they take everything away
Hold your colours against the wall

Soaking through

(I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)

Ah, she looked into your eyes
And saw what laid beneath
Don't try to save yourself
The circle is complete

(I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)
(I twisted the knife and)

Fading gently
Soaking through
And starting not to show at all
We're reaching out and to take you
Nothing else can touch me

Soaking through

Hold your colours against the wall
When they take everything away
Hold your colours against the wall

Soaking through

Hold your colours against the wall

When they take everything away
Hold your colours against the wall, rinse me (I twisted the knife and opened your eyes)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pendulum's song Hold Your Colour are evocative and vivid, painting an image of colours that are holding the singer against a wall, their emotions and thoughts soaking through. The repetition of the lines, "Soaking through, colours that hold us up against the wall," emphasizes the feeling of being trapped and overwhelmed by emotions. Despite this, the singer encourages the listener to "Hold your colours against the wall, when they take everything away." The phrase "hold your colours" suggests that the listener should hold onto their identity and sense of self, even in difficult times when everything else is taken away. The repeated line "I twisted the knife and opened your eyes" suggests either a literal or metaphorical act of violence or betrayal by the singer, who has revealed some truth or insight to the listener.

The song then transitions to a section where a woman is referenced as "she" and is described as looking into the singer's eyes and "saw what laid beneath." The implication is that the singer is revealing their true self to this woman, and that the truth of their emotions and thoughts is now fully exposed. The line "Don't try to save yourself, the circle is complete" suggests that there is no going back from this moment, and a sense of fatalism or inevitability. The repeated line "nothing else can touch me" then seems to suggest that the singer has reached a point of emotional intensity where they are invulnerable to further hurt. The song closes with the repeated line "Hold your colours against the wall," now followed by the phrase "rinse me," which could represent a final cleansing of the emotions that have soaked through the colours.

This song cuts straight through me and just transports me back to a time that meant alot to me. It's almost tough to listen to but it's so much more than a song to me. Cheers to Pendulum for providing such a great soundtrack to my childhood.

Same mate, this takes me back to a much simpler time, when I had a very good friend who obsessed over Pendulum with me back then, unfortunately we've drifted apart from each other, whenever I listen to Pendulum it immediately reminds me of her. I miss it...

Victory Mansions

I know man, I went to see them on the final gig of the Hold Your Colour album tour. I still have the ticket, but the print has almost faded off now. The energy of that gig was mental. I would love to get to relive that moment.

Your feelings are mutual for so many people across the world. This will go down as a classic and will be around for many ages to come.

The weird thing is that this is one of their many songs that I just heard recently (In fact, just today). And it brings me so many feels that I just can't describe. Especially the nostalgia feel. I did use to listen to some of their tracks way back when I was in junior highschool (and now, I just almost finished college) like the witchcraft, blood sugar, the vulture, and more. So there's that.

Pendulum is just simply one of the best.
