In 2005 they released their debut album, Hold Your Colour. Critically, the album was well-received in both the United Kingdom and Australia. In addition, it was one of the biggest selling Drum and Bass releases of all time. Pendulum have also collaborated with Freestylers, releasing the single "Fasten Your Seatbelt". MC $pyda and DJ Tenor Fly also feature as vocalists on "Tarantula".
Pendulum's sound is typically heavy beats accompanied by low, buzzing bass lines, overlaid with synthesized leads. As of their second album, In Silico, further experiments with sound are evident with many more elements from rock and typical electronic music being incorporated into their music. "In Silico" is Pendulum's first album for Warner Bros. Records via the bands Ear Storm imprint.
Their track "Vault" was played by almost every DJ and was declared by annual Knowledge Drum’n’bass Awards as The Best Track of the Year. They have also created many remixes, including a remix of Voodoo People by The Prodigy.
The band's third album "Immersion" was released on 24th May 2010, entering the UK album charts at #1 at the end of that week.
In 2011, members Swire and McGrillen started their side project, Knife Party, as a way to create different kinds of electronic music. It has since become their primary focus, however they have not ruled out the possibility of new Pendulum material in the future.

The Island – pt. i Dawn
Pendulum Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The hidden passenger that I've been takin'
Close your eyes, let's forget again
As you drag me down, I will take you in
What are you waiting for?
Just surrender here tonight
What are you waiting for?
When everything is said and done
To looking for answers, if only one
Turn my back, the edge has gone
Left with no reason, we come undone
I'm caught in your slow release
Seems like your traveler is eager to move me
My reflection will slowly fade
To another time, into my head escapes
What are you waiting for?
Just surrender here tonight
What are you waiting for?
As we go towards the light
When everything is said and done
To looking for answers, if only one
Turn my back, the edge has gone
Left with no reason, we come undone
(Oh oh oh oh)
The first verse of Pendulum's "The Island" welcomes the arrival of the singer's hidden passenger in the rising sun. The passenger is someone who the singer has been taking, suggesting a shared journey or experience. The following line invites the listener to close their eyes and forget again, which could imply a previous experience of forgetting or escaping. The passenger then drags the singer down, but the singer is willing to take them in, indicating trust and dependency. The chorus repeats the question of "What are you waiting for?" and the command to surrender, as the two individuals move towards the light.
The second verse continues the theme of searching for answers, but with the singer turning their back on the edge. This could suggest a fear of the unknown or a desire to leave something behind. The line "Left with no reason, we come undone" implies that there was a reason or purpose for their journey, but it has been lost or forgotten. The bridge section features the singer being caught in the passenger's slow release, perhaps indicating a sense of being trapped or controlled. The line "My reflection will slowly fade" could suggest a loss of identity or sense of self. The song concludes with a final repetition of the chorus' questions and commands, emphasized by the simple and catchy "Oh oh oh oh" refrain.
