Challenge
Penetration Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was standing at the border
Didn't know which road to take
Seems like obstacles blocked every pathway
Preventing me from escaping
And I turned around
And stood face to face
With a stranger staring straight at me
He said ....

They'll suck you in and spit you out
Without a thought or feeling
Then vanish without trace
Into oblivion
But they leave their poison.

Watch the good Samaritan
Stand fearless by the path
He lost his nerve and ran away
And I never saw him again
I'm moving forward cautiously
My knife down by my side
He said ....

Think once
Think twice
Won't you listen to my advice
You're outnumbered
It's a losers game
So go back where you came from.

Challenge me now
Don't be afraid

Challenge me now
Don't be afraid

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Penetration's "Challenge" describe the dilemma of standing at a crossroads in life, unsure of which path to take. The singer expresses a sense of hopelessness as they face seemingly insurmountable obstacles that prevent them from moving forward. The reference to a stranger implies the presence of someone or something that is working against them, perhaps society, authority or some other form of external pressure.

The stranger warns the singer of the dangers ahead, naming deception and betrayal as the biggest threats. The lyrics suggest that people are used and discarded, and that the effects of this mistreatment can be long lasting. However, the warning is interspersed with encouragement to stand up and fight, to not be afraid of challenges, and to face them with courage.

The lines about the good Samaritan who lost his nerve and ran suggest that even those who appear brave and noble can be flawed and often fail to act as they should. This serves as a cautionary tale to the singer, who must proceed with caution and maintain vigilance in order to survive in this cruel world.

Overall, "Challenge" is a call to arms for those who feel trapped and hopeless, and a reminder that despite the dangers and obstacles that lie ahead, one must still possess the courage to take risks and move forward.

Blowtorch

Underrated band. Good songwriting and lyrics, good production and a tight band who play together well. They're not really a punk band, and people didn't know exactly where to place them.

Devils Fork Digital

Not really punk? They were totally punk, and there from the beginning. They could play well and got very slick with the addition of Fred Purser on guitar, and their songwriting was complex and innovative in ways that a lot of their contemporaries weren't. But listen to their early stuff (e.g. Don't Dictate, Firing Squad, VIP) and it's even stylistically very "punk".

Dave Sargent

Penetration a band I've loved since the 70's but never managed to see

Just ran across your channel and subbed. I am not familiar with Penetration. I just started making videos a few months ago. I like different types of music but Punk is my favorite. I actually made one video titled What Is Punk.
