Ruby
Percy Faith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say, Ruby you're like a dream
Not always what you seem
And though my heart may break when I awake
Let it be so
I only know, Ruby, it's you

They say, Ruby you're like a song
You don't know right from wrong
And in your eyes I see heart aches for me
But from the start, who stole my heart?
Ruby, it's you
I hear your voice and I must come to you
I have no choice what else can I do?

They say, Ruby you're like a flame
Into my life you came

And though I should beware
Still I don't care you thrill me so

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Percy Faith's song "Ruby" describe the singer's fascination with a woman named Ruby, who is described as being like a dream and a song, but also unpredictable and potentially dangerous. The singer acknowledges that Ruby may not be what she appears to be and that loving her could cause his heart to break, but he cannot resist her charm and allure. Despite her flaws, the singer insists that it is only Ruby who has stolen his heart, and he is powerless to resist her.

The lyrics also convey a sense of inevitability and surrender, as the singer acknowledges that he has no choice but to be drawn to Ruby, even if it may not be wise or safe. The repeated refrain of "Ruby, it's you" reinforces the idea that the singer's love for Ruby is a kind of fate that he cannot escape. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of longing and desire for someone who is both alluring and potentially dangerous, but irresistible nonetheless.

I personally prefer Victor Young's version, but I would still think that either Young's version or this one posted here are far more desirable because they express the sentiment of the song far better than either Richard Hayman's or Les Baxter's version.

Another poster mentioned Return to Paradise from this same Percy Faith album?  While not inconsiderable a version,
here I will take David Rose's version, along with his version of The Bad and the Beautiful.

The Song from Moulin Rouge, in its double length format, also from this album, is a respectable setting, and I would also
recommend the one by members of the Boston Pops Orchestra under Arthur Fiedler.

But I will always own that these tastes are completely subjective, and others may feel differently.

Thank you. I've long been a fan of Ann Sheridan and often thought that some underrated her talent and beauty. It is also terrific to take a look at so many photos in black and white where the composition and lighting are stunning in and of themselves. Kudos to those great studio photographers.

Dear friend thank you very much for uploading this wonderful music, it is best that we leave the teacher Percy Faith .Particularly to me like these orchestral arrangements makes it much more real to the movie. well is to enjoy it working. and I feel that with the sound of their strings like that one relaxes much otra ves thank you very much.

Been in love with Ann Sheridan for a lon-n-n-g time , now! Just realized recently something that she
and Monroe (and one other actress whom I can't recall, at the moment) had in common was the way
that their eyes/eye lids looked when they would narrow them as an expression of one thing or another....
So attractive!!

Mark Dorais

Fabulously Beautiful

Stella Hamilton

Jennifer Jones was the female lead in "Ruby Gentry"; also starring Charlton Heston and Karl Malden.

What is "S.G." in reference to Ann Sheridan? Am I being dense?
