Whether he actually created the rhythm is somewhat disputed, but it's abundantly clear that Prado developed it into a bright, swinging style with massive appeal for dancers of all backgrounds and classes. Prado's mambo was filled with piercing high-register trumpets, undulating saxophone counterpoint, atmospheric organ (later on), and harmonic ideas borrowed from jazz. While his tight percussion arrangements allowed for little improvisation, they were dense and sharply focused, keeping the underlying syncopations easy for dancers to follow. Prado played the piano, but was often more in his element as the focal point of the audience's excitement; he leaped, kicked, danced, shouted, grunted, and exhorted his musicians with a dynamic stage presence that put many more sedate conductors and bandleaders to shame. With this blueprint, Prado brought mambo all the way into the pop mainstream, inspiring countless imitators and scoring two number one singles on the pop charts (albeit in a smoother vein than the fare that first made his name) as the fad snowballed. He was a star throughout most of the Western Hemisphere during the '50s, and even after his popularity waned in the United States, he remained a widely respected figure in many Latin countries, especially his adopted home of Mexico. Prado is often best remembered for his softer, more commercial work, which has an undeniable kitschiness that plays well with modern-day lounge-revival hipsters. Unfortunately, that has served to obscure his very real credentials in the realm of authentic, unadulterated Latin dance music, and to this day he remains somewhat underappreciated.
A Rockin' Good Way
Perez Prado and His Orchestra Lyrics
Well, I heard the news, there's good rockin' tonight
Gonna hold my baby as tight as I can
Tonight she'll know I'm a mighty man
I heard the news, there's good rockin' tonight
Have you heard the news? Everybody's rockin' tonight
Gonna hold my baby as tight as I can
Tonight she'll know I'm a mighty man
Gotta have the news, there's good rockin' tonight
So meet me in the alley behind the barn
Don't be afraid, I'll do you no harm
Baby, bring them rockin' shoes
Tonight I'm gonna rock away all my blues
Have you heard the news? There's good rockin' tonight
Rock on, rock on, rock on
I got good news, everybody rockin' tonight, yeah, tonight
I'm gonna hold my baby as tight as a kite
Tonight she'll know I'm a mighty man
I got good news, everybody rockin' tonight
Well, Ed and Fran and Deacon Jones
Baby, they left their happy home
They'll be there just wait and see
Jumpin' and a-stompin' at the jubilee
Oh man, there's good rockin' tonight
So meet me in the alley behind the barn
Don't be afraid I won't do you no harm
Baby, baby, bring your rockin' shoes
Tonight I'm gonna rock away all our blues
Have you heard the news? There's good rockin' tonight
Let me tell ya
There's good rockin' tonight (there's good rockin' tonight)
There's good rockin' tonight (there's good rockin' tonight)
There's good rockin' tonight (there's good rockin' tonight)
There's good rockin' tonight (there's good rockin' tonight)
Don't miss it (don't miss it)
Don't miss it (don't miss it)
Don't miss it (oh yeah)
Gonna hold my baby as tight as I can
Tonight she'll know I'm a mighty man
I heard the news, there's good rockin' tonight
Have you heard the news? Everybody's rockin' tonight

I don't care what ANYONE says, this is one of George Goldner's greatest creations. I'm old enough to remember when this came out. And it was and is one of thecgreatest dance and car kruzing records ever made. And to think this was originally a simple mambo...go figure...

I remember this song when I was 10. Will never forget it. I bet the Electris Slide would go well with this tune. Just so cool.

A great example of how modern technology has done nothing for music.
