The Noose
Perfect Circle Lyrics

So glad to see you well
Overcome and completely silent now
With heavens help you cast your demons out

And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you off your cloud
But I'm more than just a little curious
How you're planning to go about making your amends
To the dead
To the dead

Recall the deeds as if they're all
Someone else's atrocious stories
Now you stand reborn before us all
So glad to see you well

And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you to the ground
But I'm more than just a little curious
How you're planning to go about making your amends
To the dead
To the dead

With your halo slipping down
Your halo slipping
Your halo slipping down
Your halo slipping down

(With your halo slipping down) but I'm more than just a little curious

Your halo slipping down
To choke you now

Overall Meaning

The Noose by A Perfect Circle is a song that presents themes of redemption, repentance, and self-reflection. It talks about a person who has gone through a difficult time in their life. They have managed to overcome their demons with the help of heaven, and they have been reborn as a better version of themselves. The singer of the song is impressed by this transformation but is also curious about how they plan to make amends to the dead.

The lyrics suggest that the person has done some terrible things in the past - deeds that are atrocious stories of someone else. Now that they have transformed, it is time to face their past and make amends with the dead. The singer, in a way, wants to make sure that the person is not continuing to live in denial and is willing to take accountability for their actions.

The repeated line of "your halo slipping down" suggests that the person is on thin ice, and their redemption may slip away if they don't face their past and make things right. The song is contemplative and somewhat melancholy, but it presents a hopeful message that redemption and self-improvement are possible.

As a female traverses the planet manipulating their man to do her bidding, she wipes off the ends of her means that appear by the help of heaven or Evan man.

The singer is an outside force guilt tripping a manipulator. The manipulator has used another person for a duplicitous agenda but they died in the process.

How can they shake off their lies by justifying it with having their best intentions in mind, when the person they were manipulating actually died.

“And not to” we can hear the clever guilt trip

Think of someone who married a man to get back at her father but he took it seriously and she couldn’t stand being with him because she was nothing like her father. So, she forced him to leave her by taking actions that would logically cause him to leave. “But it was his decision she tells herself” “I couldn’t stand the drinking” she tells society.”

She moves on and many centuries later she has found peace and then her old husbands mother calls the manipulator to say “ your first husband has died please tell his son Evan that he died.”
So Evan asks “I’m glad you found peace now mom but how do you plan on making amends to the dead?”

Her entire ego and sense of self now has a schism. It will choke who she is now. A guilt trip on this level will cause an existential crisis at the bare minimum.

In this situation the singer has eviscerated someone’s ego.

I often wonder how many lives this album has LITERALLY saved. I know at least one. Many years ago a young man started to do some stupid shit and was reminded that these feelings pass and situations change. I am grateful for the hands that wrote every note of an album that has been so impactful on my life for over a decade. For those of you hurting. There is one that feels you and understands. Spiral on and keep going.
