Born and raised in Paraguay, she moved to Brazil at an early age in search of challenges and opportunities. Her career gained great visibility because she aimed to make the great international successes accessible to the masses, because at that time the LP discs were expensive to the majority of people. So she adapted several songs to portuguese/spanish, selling with a lower cost.
She raised to prominence in the 1970s with her hit Fernando, a Portuguese-language version of ABBA's song, from the same decade. During her career, she has sold more than 10 million records and won 10 Gold Records, 2 Platinum and a Double Platinum, among other awards.
Currently, Perla has concerts three times a week in small cities in Brazil. In 2006, she received a great tribute to her career in Paraguay. Perla married a brazilian, who was her employer and has an adopted daughter named adult and Perlinha, currently has a granddaughter.

La barca
Perla Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In "La barca," Perla expresses a powerful and complex set of emotions regarding the departure of her lover. The song begins with an exploration of distance and forgetting, as Perla laments that she cannot accept this as a reason for her lover's departure. She declares that she will remain captive to the whims of his heart, indicating that she will not forget him easily.
The second verse repeats the idea of clarity and truth that the lover brought to Perla's life, stating that he drove away her pain on the night that they first made love. The third verse intensifies the sadness of the situation, indicating that Perla's beach is now shrouded in bitterness because her lover's boat must leave. She implores him to take care of himself and not to let his life sink if he encounters tumultuous waters.
The final verse is both wistful and hopeful. Perla suggests that when the sun is setting and her lover is lost and tired, he can take comfort in the fact that she will always wait for him to return. There is an air of resignation in the final image of the song, as though Perla has accepted the reality of the situation but still harbors deep feelings for her lover.
Overall, "La barca" is a poignant and heartfelt exploration of love, loss, and the emotions that surround separation.
