'Cause I was only teasing you!
I wouldn't even let you think of leavin'
Don't you know I love you true!
Just because I took a look at somebody else,
That's no reason you should put poor me on the shelf!
Angry, please don't be angry,
Don't believe a thing you hear, just wait 'till you see,
Then you'll find no cause to show that you're jealous of me!
Oh! Angry, please don't be angry,
'Cause I was only teasing you!
Music by Henry Brunies and Jules Cassard
With lyrics by Dudley Mecum, 1925
The lyrics to Perry Como's song Angry speaks to a lover or partner who is jealous and angry. The writer of the song sings to his lover, pleading with her not to be angry at him, explaining that his actions were only playful teasing. The writer reassures his lover that he loves her truly and would never let her leave.
In the second verse, the writer apologizes for looking at another woman, but he pleads with his lover not to abandon him because of this act. He advises her to not believe everything she hears and to wait until she sees that there is no real cause to be jealous. He ends the song by pleading one last time with his lover, asking her not to be angry, as his only intention was to tease her.
The song was written in 1925 and it is interesting how relevant this song still remains today. Its theme is a topic that many couples still experience; jealousy and the need to be reassured of their partners' love. The song also serves as a good reminder not to take playful teasing too seriously and to always communicate in a relationship.

My mom would play this tune on the piano whenever I would attempt to run away when I was a toddler. I would come running back and pull her hands off the piano. No explainable reason.
