For All We Know
Perry Como Lyrics

Strangers, in many ways,
We've got a lifetime to share,
So much to say,
And, as we go, from day to day,
I'll feel you close to me,
But, time alone will tell,
"I knew you well!"
For only time will tell us so,
And love may grow,
For all we know!
Perry Como's song For All We Know is about two people who are strangers yet have a lifetime to share. The song highlights the uncertainties of love, the hope of growing together, and the wisdom that can only come with time. The opening line "Love, look at the two of us, Strangers, in many ways" is a reflection of the fact that these two people might not know each other well enough but are willing to take the chance to grow together. The singer acknowledges that there is so much to say between them, and they have a lifetime to share.
As the song progresses, the singer realizes that the only way to know someone is by spending time with them. He promises to hold his partner close as they journey through life. He acknowledges that only time will tell if their love will stand the test of time, and invites his partner to share their lives together. The singer ends the song with a heartfelt -"I knew you well!" - a promise that their love will stand.
One of the most interesting facts about the song is that it was written by two relatively unknown songwriters- J. Coates and F. Wilson. It was first recorded by a little-known group called the Four Freshmen in 1958. The song became popular in the early '70s when it was used in the movie "Lovers and Other Strangers." Another interesting fact is that the song's melancholic melody was composed by Fred Karlin, an Oscar-winning composer.

Love, look at the two of us,
Love, look at us: two people whose connection is strong, but not yet completely established, and whose future is unknown.
Strangers, in many ways,
Despite the bond between us, our differences perhaps outweigh our similarities or what we have in common.
We've got a lifetime to share,
We have ahead of us a long life where we can get to know each other and develop a deep and meaningful relationship.
So much to say,
There is so much to talk about and explore, we shouldn't rush anything.
And, as we go, from day to day,
As we move through our time together, from one day to the next,
I'll feel you close to me,
I'll enjoy what we have and cherish memories that will make us closer as time passes by.
But, time alone will tell,
Only time will reveal the truth, what truly lies between us.
Let's take a lifetime to say,
There's no hurry between us, we should take our time and get to know each other in its fullest.
"I knew you well!"
We will have enough time to know each other in depth and cherish the memories.
For only time will tell us so,
We cannot predict the future, only time's passage will make our position clear.
And love may grow,
Given that, love may grow and strengthen over time.
For all we know!
Since we cannot possibly know what the future holds, anything is possible, and love may conquer all.
