For The Good Times
Perry Como Lyrics

But life goes on and this ol' world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
For the good times
I'll get along, you'll find another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow, or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
For the good times
Perry Como's 'For the Good Times' is a song that mournfully bids farewell to a lover with the hope that they'll meet again. Starting off by acknowledging the fact that the relationship is ending, the singer acknowledges that life will continue to move on despite the sadness that comes with goodbyes. The lyrics offer a sense of closure and acceptance that the relationship was meant to be only for a short period of time, reminding the listener that it's important to cherish the time that was spent together. While the thought of having to move on and accept the end of the relationship is difficult to bear, the singer hopes to take the memories of their time together and make it last forever.
The chorus of the song is a plea from the singer to the lover, asking them to lay their head upon their pillow and to hold them close as though they love them one last time. The rain outside creating soft whispers on the window adds to the somber and reflective mood of the song, as it creates a sort of ambiance that allows the singer to reminisce about the good times they shared. In essence, the lyrics are a bittersweet tribute to a love that has run its course, filled with longing and the hope that they can hold onto the memories of that love forever.
