I've Got You Under My Skin
Perry Como Lyrics

I've got you deep in the heart of me,
So deep in my heart, you're really a part of me,
I've got you under my skin!
I tried so, not to give in,
I said to myself, this affair, never will go so well!
But why should I try to resist,
I've got you under my skin!
I'd sacrifice anything, come what might,
For the sake of having you near!
In spite of the warning voice, that comes in the night,
And repeats, and repeats, in my ear
"Don't you know little fool, you never can win!
Use your mentality, wake up to reality!"
But each time I do, just the thought of you,
Makes me 'stop' before I begin,
Cause I've got you, hmm I got you,
I got you, under my skin!
The lyrics to Perry Como's song "I've Got You Under My Skin" speaks about being deeply in love and unable to resist being with someone even if it goes against better judgement. The first verse begins with the line "I've got you under my skin," which is a metaphorical way of expressing a deep infatuation and the person's presence in the singer's mind and heart. The second line "I've got you deep in the heart of me" further emphasizes this point. The person is not just a passing thought or fleeting emotion, but someone who the singer cannot rid themselves of.
The second verse describes the singer's internal battle to resist their attraction to the person. They recognize that the affair may not end well but find it hard to resist the pull of their feelings. Despite the warning voice that reminds them of the potential consequences of their actions, they are unable to control their emotions. The phrase "use your mentality, wake up to reality" suggests that the person is aware that they are not being logical, but their heart is guiding their decisions.
The chorus expresses the depth of the singer's feelings, as they are willing to sacrifice "anything, come what may" just to be near the person they love. They acknowledge that their actions may be foolish but are unable to resist the person's hold on them. The repetition of the phrase "I've got you under my skin" throughout the song emphasizes the all-consuming nature of their love.
