I Dream of You
Perry Como Lyrics

How can I prove to you this love is real?
You're mean to me more than you mean to be
You just can't seem to see the way I feel!
When I am close to you,
The world is far away
The words that fill my heart
I love you so,
More than you'll ever know,
More than you dream I do
I dream of you!
When I am close to you,
The world is far away
The words that fill my heart
My lips can't seem to say!
I love you so,
More than you'll ever know,
More than you dream I do
I dream of you!

The lyrics of Perry Como's song "I Dream of You" convey the intense and overpowering love that the singer feels for the person he is addressing. The first line conveys that the singer thinks about this person more often than they could ever imagine. He is so consumed by his emotions that he wants to prove to them that his love is real. However, the second line indicates his desperation to do just that because despite all of his attempts, they remain unaware and indifferent towards him. This ignorance and treatment is upsetting to the singer, as he feels they are mean to him more than they realize.
The next stanza highlights the singer's feelings when he is close to this person. He is transported into his own little world, far away from everything else. The love he feels for them is beyond words, which is why he cannot seem to articulate how he feels when he is around them. The last stanza reiterates the singer's earlier words, that he loves them more than they could ever know or dream. His love is all-consuming, and he dreams and thinks of them constantly.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Dream of You" are a testament to how love can be overwhelming and all-consuming. Despite the singer's best attempts, his love remains unreciprocated, but he continues dreaming of them, hoping that one day, they will see and understand the intensity of his love.
