Love Makes the World Go Round
Perry Como Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There''s been a lot of talk about the game of love,
It''s what everybody, everywhere, is thinking of!
The love bug''s busy as he can be,
And I gotta a funny feeling that he just bit me!
Cause love makes the world go round and around.
Your pulse will beat and your heart will pound,
Cause love makes the world go round!
I met a little guy about four feet small,
Who fell in love with Annie who was eight feet tall!
Every time I see ''em coming down the street,
I know true love just can''t be beat!
Cause love makes the world go round and around.
Love makes the world go round!
Your pulse will beat and your heart will pound,
Cause love makes the world go round!
A goose got loose at the county fair,
They looked high and low but she wasn''t there!
Up jumped a gander who said leave her alone,
When she misses old Dad, she''ll come back home!
Cause love makes the world go round . . . ( and round and round! )
No matter what you do or where you go,
You get kinda lonely when the lights are low!
Everybody''s gotta have a love that''s true,
And I just gotta have you, you, you!
Cause love makes the world go round and around.
Love makes the world go round!
Your pulse will beat and your heart will pound,
Cause love makes the world go . . .
Love makes the world go . . .
Love! Makes the world go round!
Yea, Yea and a Yea, Yeah!
In Perry Como's "Love Makes the World Go Round," the lyrics highlight the universal theme of love and its importance in human life. The opening lines suggest that everyone is thinking about love and how it seems to be the topic of conversation everywhere. The love bug mentioned in the song presents love as something that is uncontrollable and can hit us at any moment. The following stanza tells a heartwarming tale of a little guy who fell in love with a girl who was much taller than him. Despite their differences in height, they fell in love, and the sight of them walking together is something that illustrates the beauty of true love.
The third verse talks about a goose who got lost, and after looking for her everywhere, they could not find her. Up jumps a gander, confident that she would come back. This verse emphasizes the idea that love can make the impossible possible. The final verse talks about how essential love is, with everyone, needing a love that is true. The song also suggests an urgency in finding that love, with the repetition of the line "I just gotta have you, you, you!"

This song has a rock n roll element to it. Good for Perry Como to change his style a little.

Ha ha. I've never heard this one. What was going on here in 1958?? I guess Como was trying to compete with rock and roll! Was that the case here?
