Maybe
Perry Como Lyrics

When you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue
Then what will you do
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near, thenMaybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say maybe
Maybe
(Maybe every now an' then, maybe)
You'll think of me when you are all alone
Wondering what I'm doin' and if I'm alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue
(What'll you say?)
Then, what will you do?
(What'll you do?)
Maybe
(Maybe as the days go by, maybe)
You'll sit an' sigh wishing that I were near
('Cause you're just a little blue an' lonely)
And maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say maybe
The lyrics to Perry Como's song "Maybe" describe a scenario where the singer suggests to a past lover that they will eventually think of him when they are alone, and that their current or new love interest may eventually prove untrue. He then poses the question of what they will do in that situation. The lyrics also suggest that the singer's former lover may ask him to come back, and he may answer with just "maybe." These lyrics are a reflection on the uncertainty of love, and the possibility of reconciliation after a failed relationship.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses his own uncertainty, admitting that even he is not sure if he will come back if asked. The repeated use of "maybe" throughout the song reinforces the idea that love and relationships are never certain or predictable. The line "Maybe as the days go by, maybe" suggests that time may provide some clarity, but ultimately the singer leaves the outcome of the situation unknown.
Overall, the lyrics to "Maybe" examine the complexities of human relationships, and the difficulties of predicting what the future may hold. The song acknowledges the power of love to bring people together, but also recognizes the possibility of heartbreak and uncertainty.
