Roses of Picardy
Perry Como Lyrics

In the hush of the silvery dew
Roses are flowering in picardy
But there's never a rose like you!
And the roses will die with the summertime
And our roads may be far, far apart
But there's one rose that dies not in picardy
< instrumental break >
But there's never a rose like you!
And the roses will die with the summertime
And our roads may be far, far apart
But there's one rose that dies not in picardy
'tis the rose that i keep in my heart!
Perry Como's song "Roses of Picardy" is a poignant ballad about a love that transcends distance and time. The opening lines of the song portray a picturesque image of the roses in Picardy shining in the moonlight. The singer describes how roses are blooming in the fields of Picardy but there's never a rose quite like his beloved. The song's refrain emphasizes how the beauty of the roses in Picardy will fade with the passing summer but there's one rose that will never wither away, that is the rose he keeps in his heart.
The song's lyrics evoke a sentimental and romantic feeling of longing and devotion. The singer believes that the beauty of the roses in Picardy is a symbol of the transitory and fleeting nature of love. The song's melody is soothing and deeply affecting, complementing the emotional depth of the lyrics. The instrumental break in the song allows for the emotions of the lyrics to settle in and fully express themselves. Perry Como's voice is warm and tender, adding to the romantic and nostalgic air of the song.
